Forest River CA Plant closings

I just found this news story about Berkshire Hataway Closing both California plants.

https://www.rvtravel.com/major-shake...es-california/

This should posted be in the news forum, but I do not have the authority to put it there.

As the article states, cost of doing business too high in California. That is just the latest to leave the state for that reason. They are maintaining the Hemet service center only.

I wonder if some of those employees have been given an opportunity to relocate to Indiana? A sort of lifeline for escape from California.

Businesses close all the time regardless of location. You can only sell so many before the market gets saturated and we’re seeing it in the R V world.
I know it’s a good excuse to rag on California though!
A few years ago on a trip we were at a gas station in South Dakota and the guy who pumped our gas noticed our license plate said I bet you’re glad to be out of that state? I told him kiddingly that after experiencing his state that I couldn’t wait to get back home!
In Wyoming while getting new wiper blades, the guy who installed them noticed our license plate said give me a hug! Him and his wife moved from Cali to be close to her family and he really missed it.
All states have their pluses and minuses.

The only person "ragging on California" is Forest River in that press release link.

Yeah, but Forrest River had a choice of plants to close. They chose the plants in CA because it is less advantageous for them to do business there versus doing business in Indiana.

This all comes down to labor costs. They’d move to China is it was feasible.

Annual minimum wage of a 40 hour a week worker:

Indiana: $15,080

California: $34,320

Only a fool would follow an RV manufacturing job from California to Indiana. Our daughter is a surgical technician. In Florida she was living in a singlewide mobile home and barely getting by. Got a job in Mill Valley California and now lives in a nice apartment complex with garages, pool, and exercise facilities.
