Fresh Water Pipe Fitting Tank Repair

I am new to the forum and would appreciate assistance in navigating if I should be in the wrong area. My wife and I have been full timers for almost 16 years, but have just recently started hitting the road in travel mode. One thing I have always noted is that an RV will always find a new innovative way to cause you headaches.

My latest problem is that my freshwater outlet leading to the water pump has detached from the actual tank. The hose leading away from the tank and to the pump has hardened over time and the vibrations from the road caused it to work as a ratchet and it worked the connection loose from the tank. The tank is in great shape with no cracks or splits. Repair facilities near me are limited and their only suggestion was to have them put in a new tank, of course. I am hoping to be able to put in a new pipe connection in the old position? I was hoping I could put a slightly larger pipefitting into the old hole and have it self tap into the tank. I could calk it with waterproofing and seal the whole thing with a patch kit. I would also like to complete the repairs without removing the tank, as well.

I would be thankful for assistance.

Thanks

I'd think the old cracked fitting could be removed and a new one installed. I wouldn't just surround the old one with epoxy or other caulking, remove, clean, and install a new one.

Hi Greg! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I would try Bob's suggestion first! Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I would replace the hose with something more flexible. Clear tubing comes to mind first.

Google plastic welding and you should find local company that does that work.

If you can smooth the tank, perhaps this would work: https://www.rvplus.com/bri-rus-1-2ba...ting-tf-1.html

Been there and done that. Let me save you a whole lot of wasted time and energy. Polyethylene tanks like our freshwater tanks can't be glued, epoxied, taped, etc. You can plastic weld the fitting or have a tank company put a spin weld patch on and install new spin weld fitting. 3M does make an expensive very specialized type of glue/sealer (can't remember name) that is supposed to work on poly plastics but it does require a specialized two part glue gun.... not cheap. I fixed mine with a plastic welding kit I bought that came with poly welding rods. All the home brew fixes folks come up with will be temporary at best.

Tank

I saw on my poly tank on my boat that they use some kind of poly glue to seal tank fitting and so need to do some research on internet or some as said here.
Good luck.
