I am a retired plumber who is also trained to operate public water systems and chlorinators. I am also a full timer who is a vagabond.

If I sit in a CG hooked up to city water for more than 2 weeks I drain all the water and refill the tank. I sanitize the system, including the hot water heater, each year. I always drink the water from my tank. If I couldn'd then I would not want to shower in it either.

When I am boondocking for extended periods I am using from the tank and replenishing it so there is no problem then.

I would say you should drain the water between trips and fill with fresh water if it has been more than 2 weeks between trips.

I always travel with a full tank of fresh water because I never know when or where I will find a pristine spot to stop at and enjoy. I dump every chance I get for the same reason. The idea of carrying just enough water to get you there does not make it with me, as much of the time I do not know where "there" is going to be.

This has worked for me since 7/06.

Basically, we sanitize twice a year...just did that prior to this trip. We use the campgrounds water during our stay and fill the tank if it's a known good source. We filter the water coming into the tank and use an under the sink filter for drinking/cooking. No problems using this system. Bob

Usually drain and sanitize system, including water heater. We do it in the winter to avoid freezing. We use the tank water for cooking and coffee. We normaly carry some bottled water. When we fill the tank we use our filter and fill from home using a normal white water hose. Never had a problem with the water.

Do you drain your coach while parked in front of your house. Here in Southern California I feel a little guilty with 80 gallons running down the road. I've also thought about letting it drain while driving down the road but my DW has nixed that.
What do you guys do?

Ours gets dumped into the storm drain at the RV storage we use. The water drains to a pump station a block away...then it's off to a water treatment plant and we all get to drink it again. Bob
