Good idea to slide the pull strap to the end. Taking the awning down is not too bad. It's putting it up. I don't have the strength to slide the bars up to put it in place. This awning is 21 feet long, canvas, and weighs a ton. BTW, my Airstream is a Motorhome not a trailer.

The bars can be hard on a big awnings. A lot of discussion of owners missing the security and durability of manual awnings. In the inland hurricane 2yrs ago dozens of owners had their manual awnings all the way down and they were fine as long as no branches fell on them. I was very surprised. I got caught in my MH at camping club tons of trees and branches came down crushing a few trailers 80mph gusts.... it was no joke.
You probably just need new springs or re-winding adjustments.

You may need more tension on the awning roller tube. It should roll itself up when released. There is an adjustable torsion spring inside the roller tube that controls that.
