True enough, but if you are not even drilling for oil, you have no new wells to cap. I have not heard alot about capping wells, but you couldnt blame the oil companies for capping wells when crude oil was selling for -$40.00 per barrel.

We are NOT energy dependent. We have more oil, hence gas/diesel, than we can use. And we have more LNG than anybody. Refiners can run low on finished product if they take facilities offline or mis-estimate demand. The US has been a net exporter of oil for over 10 years.

Here is what drives prices up: OPEC CUT production this week by 20%. That cuts worldwide supply which drives prices up if demand stays the same. It’s always been that way. What? Bur you said here in America, we have all the oil we need. That’s right, and we are also a capitalist nation. Under our system, Drillers and Refiners can sell their product anywhere they want. That means whatever the world market is willing to pay. US fuel providers can charge whatever they want. The only reason our fuel is not higher than it is, is because it costs producers less to deliver it inside the US. That somewhat reduces the sudden jolt of less supply that will first be felt in Europe. If you want to see what all other countries are paying, hop a flight to Hawaii. Their fuel prices reflect the cost of transporting the fuel. Same in Europe. If we didn’t have somewhat of a buffer here, pump prices could have jumped $1.00/gal overnight.

IMHO: The ONLY WAY to lower fuel prices in the US is to reduce demand. More efficient engines, renewable energy sources for the grid, you name it. This country is moving in that direction, but not fast enough that we won’t feel pain at the pump along the way.

Looks like prices in AZ & NM are generally lower than we have in Colorado, and it was even higher when we were in Utah a couple weeks ago.

Perhaps distribution costs are higher in western states.

In Calgary the gap between regular gasoline and diesel is about 1.35/l to 1.75/l depending on the day. The US gallon is 83% of an Imperial gallon and 4.5 litres is an imperial gallon, so do the math. Even though the US prices seem high, when we travel south, it is still cheaper than the Great White North....apparently so because we folks are too nice to bitch about it

When we drove back from Mesa last spring, it was pretty much $5/gallon all the way to the border. Whatever the reason, we need it and we buy it, or we stay home and bitch.....they got us coming and going, literally.

$2.89 at multiple locations in Dallas/Ft. Worth right now, a few places a bit higher but generally under $3. Saw one location in Ft. Worth at $2.59 today.

The line seems to be north of Marana (just outside Tucson). It goes from $3.29 to $5.19. Average in Phoenix looks to be $4.79.

Well, you certainly don't want to come to Canada if you think your gas prices are high in the US. Here in British Columbia on Vancouver Island we're paying $2.25 a litter. That translates to close to $9.00 a gallon. Now our gallon is a bit bigger than yours but $9.00 bucks!!!!
