Fuel Shortages or Higher Prices Due to Harvey???

I have read several stories about the main fuel lines to the East coast and the I-95 area being shut down by Harvey. Will this mean shortages or just higher prices for a short while? I will be leaving next week for a trip to East coast and I want to plan my fuel stops if possible. Luckily I have a full tank now.

Gas went up to $2.29 a gallon here (24 cent increase) and I'm sure it will go higher.

Search for NOLA.com on the web, they had a good article in the paper this week explaining what and why the gas prices may or may not rise. Go Tigers!

Not only are they rising, but the media scare is making for shortages here in North Texas.

the few we heard about MAY have been bad 'just-in-time' ordering on the stations part, but nonetheless, the greedy WILL jump on it.

I fueled all up before the rush, so I AM part of the problem

Gas jumped to 2.59/gallon in the Chicago suburban area, because it can. We have several refineries in the area, none of which are shut down that I know of.

All media buzz - IMHO - Fuel shortage like back when Carter was President - we had lines at the stations - but 8-10 + tankers anchored in the Chesapeake Bay Waiting to unload, some for weeks - Remember this, as the price will likely fall to it's lowest in years just before Christmas.

Are there some issues - Sure - but I really think the shortage is just the excuse to get a little extra for a month or so when the prices would normally drop.

As you all travel let us know if you run across a station that is out of Fuel. Not Likely. Be prepared to pay an extra $.25 a gallon for as long as they can keep the price up. Competition will quickly bring it right back down, as usage is on the down side in the Fall.

Fact is that prices are going up. Ours went up $0.20/gal overnight in Maryland. I am sure more to come.

Saw on Aug 31 morning Washington Post news that a refinery in Corpus Christie is preparing to re-open. Regular gas yesterday just East of Kansas City was $2.19/gallon.

But what is curious is that the diesel prices stayed the same. I paid $2.35 a gallon on 8/16/17 and last night I paid $2.34 a gallon at the same station. Gas was $2.59 a gallon.

AAA says: 600+ billion gallons of gas in storage and no chance for a shortage.

Oil Fat Cat says: prices have been flat and this is an opportunity for oil companies to make up "Margin".

There will be winners and looser depending on which side of the speculative market you sit on.

It's probably a pretty good bet that the Atlanta metro will be in full fuel frenzy hoarding / topping off every 20 miles today, particularly in front of the holiday weekend, creating some shortages that wouldn't happen otherwise....

I am just north of San Antonio and gas / diesel prices have not changed. Been here a week because I can not get to Houston. If there is a shortage you would think this area would get hit. Prices going up because of a false scare made by media coverage.
