A little humor. Maybe the VW folks were "Pulling your Leg" as the old saying goes.

Commercial advertising and Campfire Conversations make a lot of bold claims but just because somebody says it does this or that doesn't make it fact.

Nor do definitive claims by Internet experts on RV forums but they are fun to debate and chuckle at.

George - I used to use M1 15W50 in the race car and switched to the 10W40 M1 bike oil since for the most part I maintain enough pressure @ hot idle so I don't need the extra pumping losses from the thicker oil. The 15W50 also got very hard to find. But I did some research and the M1 Turbo-diesel truck oil is cheaper and has as much ZDDP, as well as a wider viscosity range so win/win.

I know my 8K Onan runs even better then yours, as I use Rotella T6 full synthetic in it. And in the 450 Cumapart. I just know, don’t ask me how 😂

Mercedes diesel....

The factory says 20,000 miles. If you actually do that, you'll end up with a sludged-up engine.

At a minimum go only (with synthetic) 10,000 miles or yearly. I've been running Diesel Merc.s for like this for 25 years.

What I've noticed in terms of real difference is that Synthetics actually run a little cooler and get 1-2 MPG better fuel economy.

Empirical data...not just my opinion.

I agree, this is a direct result of less friction being produced in the motor. Synthetic oil is the best thing for a motor and it is quickly becoming the industry standard!!

................
??- Mercedes diesels on the Sprinter forum with over 300,000 or 400,000 miles without sludge. I do change my MB Sprinter oil early because of the intermittent nature of RV usage.

Oil

Nothing like another oil battle!😄

What I would like to know if oil is oil how about the cheep Walmart oil. It meets all the specs that have been talked about here. I have often looked at it and passed it by. Probably shouldn’t

For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the product but the company I worked for back then insisted we use it on all of our Ford service trucks.
We ended up with a whole fleet of broken down service trucks.

One of the ways it was demoed was coating a trouble light with it, plugging in the light and immersing it in a bucket of water. Right, the guy would hold on to it and dunk it in a bucket of water.
Well, it happened he used one of our trouble lights with a plastic bonnet and a few days later, the trouble light plastic bonnet crumbled into pieces.

Marvellous stuff.
Motor Honey, Slick 50??

Does your Camry verbally tell you it loves it or does it leave you a written note on the drivers seat?

I've been using Wal-Mart oil in everything I have. Been running it for years, even in my diesel marine engine.
