Gander/Camping World

Stopped at my first GANDER/Camping World today. Not impressed. Inside, 1/3 to half was dedicated to fishing gear. Most of balance was dedicated to trailers (pull behind). The area dedicated to RV items was less than 1/4, and I am being generous. Usually, when stoping at Camping World, I find someyhing that "I didn't know I needed". Not this time!! (FYI, there were alot of RV's A's, C's and some 5th Wheller's outside)

Maybe they realized that they may do better with sporting goods than selling and servicing RVs

To be fair, you were at a Gander Outdoors, not Gander/Camping World. What you experienced was the current business model of the former Gander stores.

Seeing same thing here. Camping World Cincinnati (Fairfield) closed and now there is a Gander Outdoors in Huber Heights, it used to be the old Gander Mountain store. Huber Heights is close the Dayton Ohio. But the London Ohio Camping World is still there, about 60 miles away.
I am not sure if they replaced one with the other, but I have had some friends say that is what happened

Gander hasnít done well at selling fishing gear for quite a number of years

With all that I still go to my Cabelas for gear and to my local family owned RV shop for RV parts.

Gander

Guess I miss quoted. The store has a big new sign "GANDER RV". Insde they were still unpacking boxes. Yes, I have not visited the older Gander store. May not be visiting the "new store"

It's basically the old Gander Mountain business with the addition of RV sales. Gander Outdoors doesn't replace CW or Good Sam or Overton or any of the other brands in Camping World Holdings portfolio of businesses. Just one more arrow in the quiver...

We’ve been down this conversation before, but actually Gander RV has replaced camping world in Saint Augustine. I guess it is happening in a lot of other places as well. Maybe for the better, maybe for the worse. But it’s definitely happening in some major markets.

Camping world has zero presence here now.

Sure, it makes sense to consolidate outlets in smaller markets. There is enough overlap to make that possible.

My home market (Ocala, FL) has a refurbished Gander Outdoors/RV, a new Gander RV location nearby (a former RV dealership), and a CW with a large RV sales lot 20 miles down the road.

Mentioned this to an investor friend about Camping World. He tells me their stock is down about 75% in the last year or so (about $11 from over $40 Feb last year). LCI has been pretty steady, Thor down about 35-40%, Winnie only down about 5%. So not exactly trending with the rest of the industry slowdown. CW seems to be tanking particularly hard. I was unaware how bad it was but I am suspicious that may be the reason behind all the “rebranding”. Or maybe it’s something else I am only reporting info given to me so TIFWIW

Howdy!

So is the Cam World membership discount good at Gander Outdoor?
