Garmin Base Camp
I have a 780 RV and downloaded Base Camp to my PC, I was hoping to make it easier to setup and shape routes.
It seems very clunky to me and it will not send the route to my 780 it says it can't find the current.gpx file. I did look and the file is in the correct folder on the 780.
Not sure if I am doing it right but so far it's a dud.

Base Camp takes a while to learn. It is not very intuitive. But once you learn it is is a good trip planner.

A good program once you learn it. It takes some time.
You can download a route you created in Base Camp but it may not display the same on your GPS. If you connect your GPS to the computer running Base Camp you should see the files displayed on the Base Camp file folders under I believe device. If the route is not there then it's not on the GPS.
Like I said though the route you created in BC may not display the same on your GPS. This is because your GPS takes the origin and destination you downloaded from BC and creates its own route between the two honoring the avoidance's you have set in the GPS.
There are ways of forcing the GPS to follow the BC created route exactly but the procedure to do that is beyond the scope of this thread.

Here is link to a very good tutorial on basecamp. It is from New England Riders motorcycle website but gives very good instructions on Basecamp.

I had that issue using Base Camp with my 770. I had to remove the propane tank from the 770 profile. Down load the route. Add the tank again.
The Garmin developer website has known about this issue for a long time. As far as I know Garmin has not fixed it.

I have found it much easier to let my 770 plot the route by putting in waypoints. Actually I've been doing it this way since I got my first Garmin in 2001.
You can shape the route by adding a waypoint of where you would like to stop or go through. I typically do not build a route using a lot of waypoints but rather enter in the next waypoint and just go there, then put in the next waypoint. I try to enter the key waypoints prior to leaving so they are all in the Recent list (makes it seay and safe to select while driving). Then, on the road, and we decide to stop at an RV park, I enter the cooridinates or address for the RV park and go there.
Gives a lot more flexibility then trying to plot out a route ahead of time and adjust it.

Make sure you are using a data capable USB cable (like the one that came with the GPS). Not all USB cables are created equally.
