Gas Buddy Card

Has anyone taken advantage of the gas buddy card? They say they need my routing and account number to get a small deposit they don’t say how much. I don’t like to give that information without the details.

I think the withdrawal/deposit test on my bank account was $1. The same amount was reversed a few minutes after the first transaction.

Unless you are willing to upgrade to their "paid discount program", I almost always find I get more money back using my 2% cash back Visa card.

Gas Buddy free tier seems to average 3 cents a gallon.

With fuel north of $3.00 a gallon, 2% cash back works out to 6+ cents per gallon back.

I don't buy enough fuel most months to justify paying for the monthly subscription cost for the Gas Buddy premium tier. Supposidly you "save 20 cents per galion, and up to 40 cents with deal alerts". Membership is $10 per month, would have to buy 50 gallons per month (at 20 cents per gallon) just to pay for the membership, at that point you haven't saved any money yet.

When traveling with my travel trailer I usually get decent deals with my TSD fuel card (diesel) making a Gas Buddy subscription worth even less to me.

I'm not one of those that will go 30 minutes out of my way just to save 5 cents a gallon, likely end up burning more fuel negating the savings anyways.

Actually, you benefit well from the Plus Membership if you already have, or don’t need Road Side Assistance. Here’s a list of the what you get.
$49/year membership is what I pay.
$0.20/gal savings on first 50 gallons each month and then $0.5/gal until he beginning of the month, then it starts over.
Deal Alerts can save you UP to $0.40/gal. They vary, depending on the location you select. Let say you spend $100 on fuel. The pump and your receipt will read $100. You may actually save $5.60. You will receive an alert with the cost of how much was spent, and how much was saved, plus the total of $94.40. The total is what will show up on your bank statements,…not the $100.

You do have a daily limit. For a few years it was $75/day, with a weekly limit of $150/week. Recently, they increased the limit to $100/day, but I’m not sure if the weekly limit increased to $200/week. Make sure to have your credit cards when you travel. Whenever you hit that daily limit,…that’s it for the day. For those of you with motorhomes ,…or those who have towables will benefit from your initial fill up. After that, you’ll need your credit card for the rest of the day. That’s the hidden fine print that they don’t tell you, until you call customer service. It works pretty good for daily driving. I typically save $5-$7.50 per fill up. I’ve gotten money added to fill ups from the GasBack rewards. You place orders through their affiliates, and have money added to your discount price when you purchase fuel.

For me, when home I work remotely about 75% of the time, rarely buy more than 25 gallons in an entire month.

Then when I'm on vacation with the TT, I would hit the max weekly on my first day of travel... while the TSD card will generally give me similar discounts with no limits (for diesel).

Personal use case will determine the benefit for the OP.

Yes. The idea is they setup your gas buddy card as a debit card to purchase gas with.
