Tried Pen Fed after years of hearing about it. Love it! Their limit is even higher.

master card pays %1, gas at $4 a gallon; I'll take the 4 cents a gallon cash back. and %1 on everything else I buy.
Some how someone got my credit card number; charged $700 before I caught it. called the card company, they sent me a new card and ate the charges. no questions asked.

I just got a Penfed Visa. Seems like a good deal at 5% rebate. I had an unexpected issue and wondered if anyone else had the same. I used it the first time at a Shell station, allowed $99, swiped twice, wouldn't allow more. OK. Last weekend stopped at a different Shell about 100 away to fillup my car and it wouldn't accept the Penfed card. Told me to contact my card issuer. Did that and Penfed said never got an authorization request. So, on the way home stopped at the first Shell I had used to fillup the MH and the same thing happened. Went across the street to another station and filled without a problem.

After seeing the comments re PenFed, I sent for one. It just arrived and I've activated it. No purchases yet but 5% rebate sounds good. Have noted, however, there is a 2% charge if used in a other countries such as Canada, so there I guess I'll stick to Capital One.

As a small business owner who takes credit cards, I can tell you there is no such thing as a free lunch. That discount you are getting comes directly out of the merchant's credit card receivables account. One of the reasons my family business no longer takes AMEX is because the charges were breaking our bank account.
As tempting as PenFed sounds, and the wife and I are both eligible, we'll stick to our local CU for personal accounts and our local bank for the business accounts.

I have used BP card at stations. I don't think it was of much value unless you use it frequently.

Thanks..........after reading all the above posts.... I applied for a PenFed C/C today.....got approved quick....and I'm set up for on-line statements too.....Now I'll get rid of most of my other cards..( they only give 2% on fuel purchase )...and take advantage of just the PenFed.

Not sure what the 'requirements' are but I think I'll look into it too. It works the same way my old Citi-bank card did, a credit equal to the discount in the next months bill. It works out great 'til the Exxon/Mobil and the CC company began their bantering back & forth.
At 5%, that's a pretty good discount. If there is no limit,... it might work out. These days when a fill-up is over $100, 5% is a buy.

I got the Exxon/Mobil card to get the 15 cents per gallon discount (but only on their card) which is close to 4% when gas is at 4 bucks. But now I see the discount for cash is starting to spread like wildfire again.
