General RV loan document fraud

Well, for those of you that purchased and financed through General RV, you might review your loan documents. I purchased from them last year and the finance component was painful. I’m double checking today to see if what they told me was accurate. I had so many contradictory statements from finance they wore me down. If I were to post my entire finance experience the post would be too long.

That Fox story is insane. We bought our 2017 Four Winds Class C last July in Indiana, and financed it through our credit union in Alabama. Fortunately we only financed it for 7.5 years. Hate the $1,000 per month payment, however it's nice knowing we won't have to deal with anything like this!

Wow...Just wow. And I thought my experience with Bank of the West was a train wreck.

My loan was assigned to Bank of the West. I was never provided that document until yesterday even though all my correspondence prior to closing mentioned my loan was through Bank of the West. It just horribly unethical, yet tolerated. They continue to deny the did any wrong doing.

If proven true, very underhanded by General RV. Didn't they "think" someone, somewhere was not going to except the false terms for the contract they thought they agreed to when they purchased the RV unit.

A few years back I was about to sign a sales agreement for a new vehicle, and the final price on the vehicle was fine, but the extended warranty date of expiration was all smuggled up. I made them completely redo all the paperwork before I signed.

I just shared your story to the Escapees forum. The company has 13 locations in 6 different states so one wonders if this was only happening at the Salt Lake location, or maybe others as well?

We visited General RV in SLC when we originally were looking at motorhomes 3+ years ago. They actually had a local reputation for being pretty good as dealers go. Let’s face it, most dealerships don’t have stellar reputations, but theirs wasn’t bad. And I hope that stories like these finally convince people to read everything before they sign it! I have lenders or sellers open multi page contracts to the final signature page and hand me a pen. They get very confused when I take the package of papers and start at the beginning. I cannot tell you how many errors I have found in all kinds of situations. One of them was my last mortgage, and that caused all kinds of consternation. I just waited until they fixed it. It wasn’t nefarious, just carelessness, but it was a significant error. READ THE CONTRACT!

I have to agree with read the contract. La Mesa RV in Mesa AZ wanted us to sign a contract that showed our old address and still as home owners after we sold that house.

So many buyers just want to get the transaction done, and unscrupulous dealers (sales people?) (or even bankers) probably get a larger cut based on the bottom line.. I think a lot of the clauses they want to attribute to" carelessness" are deliberate attempt to defraud the purchaser ! As soon as anyone starts pushing some papers my way to sign without reading, that is a definite red flag for me to take my time, read every bit of it, and most of all, understand it all crystal clear before I sign it. This kind of mistake can haunt the purchaser for years ! Especially the tactic about the Balloon payment being inserted in there, without being verbally mentioned ! If the purchaser agrees to it by signing, the balloon payment is not (in itself) illegal. But that chain of dealers shows a deliberate strategy of these tactis, as well as repeatedly "smudging' and altering documents, and leaving blank spaces where a signature should appear.. Maybe a photograph should be taken of every page during the signing of documents ? Thanks for the great post !

X3. If I understand what I'm seeing, even with the smudges and shady numbers, those contracts showed the big balloon payment. I'm surprised no one asked what that meant. For all I know maybe some did and asked for a correction or walked away.

This is going to get real interesting. If what is being alleged is true, and no one probably knows right now, it's going to get really ugly for General RV. The other folks that may be in a lot of hot water are the folks that wrote the loan documentation software and/or set it up. It would not be beyond the realm of possibility that this is simply a software issue although the "smudges" do raise an interesting question. Stay tuned folks film at 11:00.

The allegation is that General changed the contract AFTER it was signed. No idea if that's true, but it's what is alleged.

That is what I don't get. Both versions with and without the smudge show the single balloon payment. Maybe the sales person hoped no one would notice. I have no idea either.
