Just purchased used allegro bay 34xb. nice unit, the generator hard to start and after starting idle flares, does not appear to matter if under load or not, any ideas coach is 2006

Check the oil level and replace the fuel filter.

Not sure what you mean by Idle flares! Are you saying it levels RPM out?
When you talk about load- How much load?

Service the gen. Fuel filter, oil/oil filter, and air filter, check the coolant level. Also with the surge as you describe, replace the rubber fuel line from the back of the genset to the filter, it’s 3/16” line. It has a bad habit of cracking and deteriorating back just outta sight in the middle panel

I bought the very same mh with the same generator used been sitting and had to remove and clean the carb with carb cleaner, works great now just need to run on a regular basis

Check and see if it has an altitude adjustment screw on the carb. Makes a quite a difference if it is set wrong.
