Generator spark plugs

Trying to decide whether to use the onan brand spark plugs or have you guys had good luck with another brand? My Cumins onan 5.5 hgjab calls for onan 167-1638, but I am wondering if the extra money is worth it.

Onan doesn't make Spark Plugs --Oil Filters-- Air Filters - Just re- Branded products.
Your Plugs can be found at most Auto parts stores.

When you get your package of "Onan" spark plugs, you will find that they are NKG's in a green box.

Ditto what the others have said. You can use any brand as long as the size & temperature specs are the same. NGK, AC, etc. Other brands will have a cross-reference to the Onan part number. Same for Onan branded filters, whether oil, fuel or air.

When I replaced mine a couple years ago, I used Champion RS17YX. I also changed all the filters (used WIX), cleaned the slip ring, and inspected the brushes.

Ditto on NGK it's hard to beat them in most motors between push mower and autos. Found Pep boys has best price. Bought dozens for small fleet of 2stroke jet skis to read plugs for tune / plug chops.

Must be John Deere green. Just asking for NGK plugs and they were a lot cheaper. I have 750 hours on mine and it was running rough, so I replaced the plugs. Still ran rough, so I disconnected the fuel line and run a mixture of gas and Seafoam for about 1/2 hour and it now runs smooth. I do exercise it on a regular basis, but still needed to clean the carburetor.

That was a pun. Seems like all of John Deere parts cost more then they should. Maybe it is just a local joke.
