Getting an early start to the season

Heading out this morning for the first trip of the season with the new (to me) canoe. I got the trailer de-winterized a couple days ago and we found a couple free days to get an early trip in.
The camping season has arrived.

Keep the TT between the ditches and the canoe on top of the water!

It was a good trip. We dodged the bad weather and had a good camping and canoe trip. The worst part was the state park that had most of the campground closed off. I understand the early season, and it taking time to get everything up and running, but if a business is going to offer half the product, they shouldn't change full rates. And, they should at least let campers know ahead of time that there will be no showers, flush toilets, potable water or dump station available at the park. We camped there last spring at the same time and everything was up and running so we figured it would be the same this year. They only open part of the campground in April, but they have always had the associated facilities open as well. Also, they for some reason had blocked off about half of the early sites for some reason which they could not or would not disclose to me. The sites had clearly been occupied just days earlier since they had reservation stickers on the site markers.

At least we had electric. And the trip around the lake and all of it it's off shoots was great fun. And I kept the trailer on the road and the canoe upright.

Well... if I had to guess... My guess would be Mirror Lake SP... such a great place..

In my experience.. any SP in Wisconsin prior to May 1st will be an absolute "crap-shoot"... And while I agree with your summation of how a business should be run.. at the end of the day.. a SP is a governmental agency and won't be run like a business..

Glad you had a great time.. I love that park...

Yep, that was Mirror Lake SP. We have camped there in April a couple other years and it was great. All the facilities were open for those trips.

Anyway, if you like Mirror Lake SP, I am guessing you have also visited Devils Lake SP. A beautiful park for camping and recreation.

It's time for everyone to get their trailers de-winterized and stocked. Even up north. Summer is coming.

We were at Blue Mound SP last weekend, great weather, trails were a bit muddy (we have a tandem kayak, but my wife thought it was too early to get it out of hibernation). Blue Mound had just "reopened" the weekend before, and water was still shut off. We have reservations for Ottawa Lake, Devils Lake, Mirror Lake, Governor Dodge, Lake Kegonsa, Yellowstone, and Wyalusing SP's this summer. Sometimes services are hit or miss, especially this early, but we are blessed with fantastic parks and campgrounds. We are also taking a trip West to visit our son in Montana, and have reservations at State Parks in MT, UT, and CO :-) Thanks for posting, maybe we'll see you around!

Wow, sounds like your summer is all mapped out and full. Our situation requires that we follow a less pre-planned schedule. But, my wife just got her latest schedule and it looks like we will be heading out again on the 24-27th of April. We will be heading for one of our favorite spots, Juneau County Wilderness Park. You should look into some of the county parks around the state as well as the SP's. Anyway, if you see a 19' KZ Sportsmen with a blue Chevy Silverado and a canoe, come say hi. Oh, and just so you know ahead of time, I grew up in Minnesota:
