Giant rat attacks slide gasket
I recently replaced the gasket on our bedroom slide and was very happy to find, as hoped, it solved the pesky leak I'd been fighting for months - at least I thought it had. After an overnight shower I went out to find the leak was back!
Since this wasn't the first time it had rained since replacing the seal, I was more than a little "perturbed" by the leak and started investigating. The slide was out overnight and I could see no problems with the gasket on either side. Then I got out my ladder and took a look at the top:
I could see giant rat (OK, raccoon) footprints on top of the slide and roof. Anyone have any similar experience with a raccoon shredding a slide seal? Other than keeping the slide closed, any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again?

Does dirty rats………What a mess. We have good luck using mothballs under and around the rig to discourage small critters, mice, chipmunks etc. I’d throw a handful on the roof of that slide too, might do the trick.
What did you use to Lubricate that seal, cod liver oil? Sorry bout that, thought you might need a little joke about now.

There is little that can be done to eliminate raccoons from destroying things, short of making caps out of them. I use traps to catch them here at the farm. They are IMO the most destructive animal we humans must contend with, they will destroy most everything. I have seen abandoned houses that are a total loss from raccoons moving in and tearing up everything.

Remember that Moth Balls are poisonous for humans and animals. You can search the internet and find out about Moth Balls. When used for the purpose of killing moths, a sealed container is supposed to be used. This prevents the fumes from poisoning people and animals.

We use a mixture of vasiline and cyanne pepper to stop our horses from chewing on the boards in the barn. I don't know what the vasiline would do to the seal but I bet the pepper would stop the chewing. I also dumped some pepper in a trash bag I have hanging in the carport because one or more of our dogs was tearing into it No more.
