I received a quote on 5th Wheel RV insurance from Gilbert RV Insurance due to a conversation I had with them at their booth in the Tampa RV SuperShow. The coverage seems fair for the price quoted.

Has anyone had any experience with them?
How well do they pay in the event of a claim?[/list]

Never heard of them. Is that the actually insurance company they are insuring for or is it possible they are insuring for GMAC, Progressive, NII, and so on. If they are offering to give you a new rig for the first five years of your rig or 100% cost of what you paid for your rig after five years than you have a good company if not check into others. There are two or three out there that offer this as well as many other good things for the rver.

They gave us a quote from Progressive that was over two hundred less than when I called Progressive direct. Good price and coverage so far.

We went through them, and got a good rate, they write for prog... and a few others but not GMAC, they fixed us up with a comp... that had us for a year but then they wanted to insure high risk ppl so we got droped ,, so gilbert got use with Prog... and like Drifter said it was cheaper than what we could of got going direct, but after another year went by we got a letter from gilbert that stated we would be dealing with prog... directly from now on ,, still at the cheaper rate!!

Note that Gilbert RV Insurance is an insurance BROKER, not an insurance COMPANY. Therefore, in event of a claim, it will not be Gilbert who pays the claim...it will be the insurance company Gilbert places you with who will pay the claim. So, to answer your question, we'd need to know which insurance COMPANY was used in the quote.

Richard...
May we ask why? Lower rate, better coverage, more reliable, etc?

I ask because our policy is up for renewal in March and I'm doing my annual "look around" to see what alternatives are available. We have been happy with Great Americam (National Interstate) which we buy through the ExplorerRV.com online agency, but I always check out a few others before renewing. Just got a quote through Good Sam (GMAC) and it was $175 above what I pay now for same coverage.

Gary,

I got a quote from Twin Peaks that was for the same coverages for less money so I went with them. Other than price, I had no objections to the quote from Gilbert's.

Gary, I also have National interstate and played the insurance game at the Fl RV show. When you compare apples to apples National still came out ahead. Mine is thru Explorer which took over from 5 Star. Guess 5 Star just got burried with the FMCA applications.
I even received a call from Explorer to see if I had any questions with my coverage since it is up for renewal next mo. Just told her I needed lower rates, she said she tried!

I went thru Flying J who placed me with Safco Ins for $204 per year. ($102 each 6 months) I think rates vary from state to state however.

Rates definitely vary from state to state and individual to individual - that's why we all have to do our own shopping for insurance. No two situations are alike and a company that has a great rate for one rig/owner may be out on left field for somebody else. No one company is always cheaper or better.
