GMAC Insurance Renewal WOW

Just recd my renewal for my DSDP. Long story short. I backed into a mesquite stump while on a trip to Texas this year No injury,no other vehicle involved. Well they charged me a point and gave me a 50% bump in rates. I switched to GMAC in 2006 and the rate has gone up every policy renewal since ,but increases were small so I sucked it up and paid. Well not this time. 50% is WAY too much. Any recommendations on other companies to try? Thanks in advance. Don

National Interstate is the company that I use and have done so for almost 3 years. I've looked at Progressive, GMAC, State Farm, etc, etc. every year at renewal, and for the coverage NOBODY has come close, especially when I add my 22 year old son to the driver list. I'll continue to check with other companies at renewal, but so far I'm happy with what I have.

I use GEICO: RV Insurance 1-800-909-4246

Don't step on any lizards.... That will make your rate go up

You can get full replacement cost for your RV... No depreciation

In 4 years, I have had 4 insurance companies. The only way to keep them honest is to shop, shop, shop. Every one raises rates and every time, I find a someone that offers a better price.

How much was the repair bill? I have them and had a small hit on a misplaced electrical box and it was $2900. I'll bet I get dinged by them also.

I don't think it makes any difference. Every time this question is asked you get multiple responses by folks who say the one they have, or had, is a good insurance company. But this seems only to be true as long as you've never had a claim. I too have GMAC and other then a minor windshield chip repair, I haven't had a claim yet, knock on wood. Actually my semi-annual rates have remained pretty steady. They even went down a few dollars this year from last. Not to say it won't change next year. Maybe it's because of our home location, I don't know.

I spoke to a friend one time who was an insurance agent for a major company and he said rates can be based on number of claims in a given area. If claims are high in an area then everybody gets stuck, by their premiums going up. Doesn't matter if it's home or vehicle coverage.

Don't know if it's true but I also heard right here on this forum when you jump around, sometimes your rates will go up also.

A good rule of thumb , ask any RVer what they pay for insurance and it's guaranteed to be lower than yours, never fails!

We're with Progressive. With our first MH, I backed into a car that was behind me (before I installed the rear view camera).

Progressive paid up and raised our rates, but only about 25% for 3 years. Other insurance companies have raised our rates 100% for smaller accidents with our other vehicles, so we're happy with them, and continued with them when we bought our new coach.
