Golf Cart Insurance

Friend of mine went to a local campground a few weeks ago and he had his golf cart in the garage in the 5th wheel. Campground owner asked him if he had liability insurance on it and the answer was no. Owner told him he could not use it in the campground without insurance. Is this common? I have a golf cart but have not taken it to any campgrounds.

I don't know if it is common, but I have insurance on my ATV. Why wouldn't you want insurance on a golf cart? Seems risky to me.

It's not required in any campground in Georgia I've taken mine too. It's not required by the state either (that I've ever seen).

Jekyll Island requires lights, turn signals, brake lights, seat belts etc.

I do have road insurance on it though.

I’ve been to numerous places where they require proof of insurance. It’s a good thing to me.

How much does it cost for golf cart insurance? Is it part of your RV policy, homeowner's policy or ???

We have all of our policies (home, cars, RV) with Allstate. The golf cart is on it's own policy with Allstate and is $75 a year.

I had to get insurance to register my golf cart in Port Aransas, Texas, and the RV park we stayed in also required it. It cost me $75 a year, less than it would cost to rent a cart for 1 day.

First post to the group.

State campgrounds in Ohio require titled, tagged, and insured golf carts. Grange $98/yr liability. Private campgrounds typically charge a fee and may require you to sign a waiver.
