Good fireworks show on 4th of july while camping
Does anyone know of a good place to camp and watch a good fireworks show on the 4th of July? My two young boys love to watch fireworks. I live in Terre Haute IN. I do not mind driving a little while to see this and camp. I read that Chicago has a good show but I do not know if there is an RV park close enough to see them. If I have to I could take the toad Jeep and drive to a good place to watch them. The article says Navy Pier is a good place to watch from.
Any input on place to watch and camp would be a big help. I have to also make sure I can get to and in the RV park because I am 65 feet long.
Thank You Chris

The best fireworks show I have ever seen was over Mt. Rushmore.

Several years ago I enjoyed July 3-4 in St Louis. They call it Fair St Louis and it takes place on the grounds around the Arch. There were quite a few displays and booths including things for kids. There was a huge sand scuplture between the Arch and the old courthouse that was awesome. There were also things going on in the courthouse and air shows. They started the fireworks show in the air by having one of the air show planes release the first few fireworks. There was no admission accept for the stage shows. I would go back there if I was in that area again.
There is an RV park at the casino across the river and train stop there so you don't have to drive. At that time I believe for $4 one could buy an all day train ticket. I did that and took the train "tour" of St Louis, stopping to see Union Station. The RV park was full because it was a last minute decision for me but they also have large back in spaces marked off in front of the fence of the park for free dry camping. That worked out well for me.

Hi Chris,
Just south of Mackinaw City is Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping CG (231-436-5584). If you stay here, go to the north/eastern part of the CG, on the beach to Lake Huron. Put your chairs out early to capture a beach side place. You'll be able to see the fireworks from Mackinaw City, Mackinaw Island and a place to the south east. The fireworks are not "in your face". If you want to be up close, do not do this. However, there is a nice show of the three different places. The fireworks do not start until after 10 PM. Wear warm cloths and bring a blanket or two. Except for San Francisco, this was the coldest July 4th I have ever experienced (remember I am from south Florida).

It would not be a short drive for you, but Walt Disney World!! Good view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Ft Wilderness (Disney's campground) beach.

I have been to the Chicago fireworks and are one of the best I've seen. There is live music from the Grants Park bandshell by the Chicago Symphony synched to the fireworks over Lake Michigan. They are held on JULY 3RD, not the 4th. Also, the 'Taste of Chicago' goes on during the week of the 4th.
If you want a unique fireworks experience, be in Hungry Horse, MT on the 4th for a free-for-all fireworks display all over town.

You could try Petoskey State Park,MI
Take you lawn chair to the beach and watch the fireworks
in Petoskey and the other town to the north.
They both set them off over the bay at the same time.
It's quite a show.

That will be an interesting weekend for us. We will be returning from a two week holiday south of 49 just in time for the Canada Day/July 4th howl. Should be fun.

pierre, sd too
We happened to be in Pierre, SD on the 4th of July a few years ago ... we camped in their city park on the river ... there was a great band concert followed by fireworks ... we walked about 1/4 mile to the band concert ...
It was a great evening ..

I think we have decided to go to the Denver CO area for July 4. The wife has some family there. Is there any camp grounds close to that area that fireworks can be seen from? Again we can drive to a good place to see them but it sure would be nice to sit at the RV and watch them. I know some have the fireworks on the 3rd and other close dates. If anyone knows of anyplace, please post the show dates.
I will be 65 feet long so hopefully that does not limit where we can go. I would prefer 50 amp and full hook-ups because we will be spending about ten days there.
We also have two young kids so I would like a kid friendly place.
Thank You
Chris
