Now to cover everything included muy hay equipment needs I need deep and std 1/2" drive impact sockets in metric and SAE.This may help other in completing what tool sets they travel with.

Right now I carry a full craftsman box 1/4" through 1/2" drive along with box end wrenches and assorted pliers and adjustable wrenches, but not impact rated. I also currently carry a Makita drill driver and hex impact driver along with drill bits, etc.. So with the correct set I can eliminate some of what I carry.

Well Keith,
I didn't read all the other responses but, may I ask, are you planning on rebuilding your engine a time or two while out on the road? Or, maybe a tranny overhaul? Maybe a lot of serious toad work along the way? I don't mean to be sarcastic but, you're talking about amassing a fairly large and quite HEAVY tool assortment!

Sure, if one is a DIY type and has decent mechanical knowledge and experience, it's nice to have a *decent* array of tools while out on the road. None of us, and I mean NONE, have any idea what will break or malfunction on out equipment while touring this planet. It's pretty tough to be prepared for all *potential* emergencies and break downs.

I've been a DIY type for eons and have done all my own work. I have a fair sized roll-a-round tool box at home but, what I carry on the coach in terms of tools, is your basic 3-drawer little tool box. What fits in it, is ALL I'm gonna carry. Based on the repairs etc. I've done on this coach, I know darn well that there's not nearly enough tools in that little box that could handle what I am capable of repairing or at least attempting to repair while out and about.

But, enough of that. It's your coach, pack it with whatever tools you think you might need. Obviously, you know the more tools, the more weight and, on that one side of the coach. Impact tools, as in an array of sockets is always a winner. But, to get the value of them, you'll need impact GUNS. And that means air hoses too or, if you're the kind that's into battery powered stuff, then, you'll need big gun battery powered drivers to get the benefits of your new impact sockets.

In the pic you see below of my little 3-drawer, I have 1/2" 3/8" and 1/4" socket sets and related ratchets and extensions. 1/4"-1" open/box wrench set, a 4mm - 20mm open/box wrench set, some common sized tubing wrenches, an assortment of pliers including specialty ones like inner and outer snap ring pliers, mini vice grips, screw drivers galore, files (and a mini set of files) some various odds and ends, wire, tape, wire ties, a ball peen hammer, chisels-small and large, a mini-hack saw and a few other misc. odds and ends.

If it ain't in that little box, then I'm not gonna fix it, even though if I was at home, I'd do it. That's what they make credit cards and cell phones for. Good luck on building your rolling tool set.
Scott

Keith,

The Sunex 5153DD is the only tool set that I own on your list. The sockets are very high quality and the range of sizes should be adequate for most repairs.

standard shipping is free and appears to be no tax on above site for $112.38

I do suggest you only get the 6 point, not the 12 point, sockets. Too easy to round the nut/bolt with the 12 points.
So, what exactly do you use the impact gun on?? 22.5” tires?? Or are you talking about the smaller class A with 19” tires. Not sure they could handle the mugs on either one. Just sayin...

I wouldn't buy anything from any company that says "made in Taiwan, Providence of China".

I do buy things from China when to do so makes sense.

Every time, without exception, a tire shop has used torque sticks on my vehicles, the torque was wrong when I checked them afterwards. Now I tell the tech "Use a torque wrench or don't touch my car/truck, otherwise I'm going somewhere else." I've had virtually no issus with incorrectly torqued lugs nuts since I've taken this stubborn stance.
I agree, whenever I have tires mounted or rotated I always loosen the lug nuts up and re-torque at home. I carry a torque wrench when we travel and re-torque the trunnion bolts on my WD hitch as they always after 4 or 5 hundred miles loosen a bit.

I am all over the map agreeing with some and disagreeing with other on what tools to take along. I probably am on the side of taking to many tools because the old saying goes, “If you have it, you probably won’t need it”. Kind of like an insurance policy you bought but never used.

My dad, who was a mechanic for 60 years used to always tell me that if you know how to use it, take it along. Otherwise, leave it at home.

One thing for sure, if I’m broke down and if my tools or jacks aren’t enough to fix my stuff, I’ll pray that when I contact the guy next door, that it’s Keith or one of his tool toting buddies.

Proper torque tool usage requires both calibration AND experience. Proper torquing occurs when a tool has been 'warmed up' or used several times prior to the final torque. This SHOULD be the same procedure used in calibrating the tool! Persons who do not routinely use (OR CALIBRATE!) them may not be familiar with proper techniques. I state this as I was a calibration technician in the Navy!

Lots of good ideas here. I been a mechanic my whole life. When I saw that open bay with tool box all neatly organized I just love it. I'd buy a guys rig if I see he's that neatly organized with tools. I think it's true if you don't carry it you'll end up needing it. Just a few thoughts. Harbor freight is ok as long as your life is not at risk. Their jacks are ok but their jack stands never. Most of their jack stands have been recalled. Whatever impact gun you get, shop for a universal swivel connector that allows offset work. You get a lot more versatility. I only carry the long impact sockets. I use the shorts so little it's not worth lugging them.

Keith you didn't say what RV you have so I just want you to know the size sockets and the torque wrench may be different. For instance, if you have a Workhorse chassis you will need a couple of much larger sockets than what comes in the average impact set. The Workhorse lugs use two different sockets. One larger one for the nut covers and another different size large one for the lug nuts. I bought the larger sockets from NAPA. In addition the torque on the lug nuts is over 200 pounds on the Workhorse chassis. I sold my Workhorse so I can't specify what size sockets these are but I bought a 300 pound torque wrench from Harbor Freight. I had to buy 3/4 inch drive sockets with an adapter to be able to use a 1/2 inch ratchet/torque wrench. I carried a pancake compressor with a 3/4 inch drive impact wrench. My torque wrench was 4 feet long. I also carried extensions so I could reach the nuts on the dual wheels. Just make sure you get the right size sockets and torque wrench.

I have been lurking on this thread and I appreciate all the posts here.
This and the fact that a friend of mine just came back from a trip where he had 2 flat tires, I decided to buy a battery impact gun and a set of torque sticks.
I figure the faster I can change a tire if need be, the less risk I will be taking.

Since I have Ryobi tools and several batteries, I bought that brand. I don't care if the best or not, it is adequate for my needs. Same with the torque stick set. I'll only carry the one I need for the lug nuts, same with the 6 point socket.

One additional item I don't have that I will buy is a bright green safety vest. Maybe that will help save me (or make me a better target).

Again, thanks for all the ideas.
