I normally try not to call anybody myself , but today I had a tire stem core valve problem I could not resolve myself.
I called GS and they were very professional and found a mobile tire service unit to help me. But before they would send him they had to have a $130.00 on my credit card, I agreed as I didn't have a lot of choice. The fellow that came resolved my problem in about a 1/2 hour and was on his way, did a good job and pleasant experience.
So, is this normal for GSRS? The charge is kind of out there, I don't mind paying my share but 130.00 for half an hour? The part was about $2.00 plus the half hour labour.

if you already have their rss, something does not sound right. I would call them and find out why you had to pay.

If the $130 was for 1/2 hour plus a service call, that's not bad. It is possible the service man would not come out without it. I am not sure what the payment policy is. I thought the Roadside Assistance covered this type of thing. However I have Coachnet rather than GS.

The roadside service call should be covered, but the actual repair would not be. If you had just needed to have the spare put on, there would be no charge, but even replacing a valve is considered a repair and 1/2 hour is the minimum charge.

That's exactly what it cost me when I had a valve stem core start leaking.

I changed to CoachNet but they told me they would have charged the exact same amount.

So would not have mattered if GS or Coachnet

I learned something here. But it still does not seem like you should have to pay for the service call. just the repair.

This subject gets a little more interesting. The fellow that did the service call phoned me today to make sure everything was o.k. I asked him what his rate was, it is $60.00 an hour. He gets paid 2 hours plus $1.00 a mile for travel cost.
So he would have travelled 60 miles for $60.00 plus $120.00 for his time. So he gets $180.00.
I had to pay $130.00 plus my premium along with all you other kind folks, so at the end of the day my 20 minute service call cost GS $50.00. I think if I need to call again it will have to be a major problem. I would be better just calling a local service company.

Now if you had also had the Good Sam Extended Service Plan with the tire coverage, well *that* would have paid for the repair. At least, I think it would have.

I have no problem with paying for the repair. It was a valve stem core @ two dollars and 20 minutes at our site. I just have an issue with paying 130.00 for the visit when GS is supposed to be paying for a service call.
Neighbour down the street had Coachnet in the week before. Same scenario but CN payed for the service call and the neighbour paid 10.00 for a new stem. And no precharge before they sent the service man.
Oh well, it is up for renewal in September.

What he gets paid and what it cost GS shouldn't be a concern of yours. He came out, fixed the problem that had you stuck on the road and you got going for $ 130. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. The fact that he called you afterward to make sure everything was OK indicates they are interested in good customer service.
