Good Sam forces Pilot / Fj to quit TSD discount program

PFJ informed TSD that as of this week (either the middle of the week or the end) TSD will no longer have ANY fuel discount at Pilot or Flying J stations - because Good Sam informed them that they have an "exclusivity" deal with PFJ, and therefore RVs are NOT ALLOWED to have any other discount than the crap 8 cents that Good Sam has negotiated.

Full information: The discounts DO NOT STACK so if someone is utilizing the TSD card to pay, they WOULD NOT get anything other than the TSD price, not 8 cents less, no Good Sam benefits (of which there are none to speak of)... And since there is no stacking of the discount, USING THE TSD CARD DID NOT COST GS ANY MONEY. THIS IS JUST BEING PUNITIVE, THERE WAS NO REASON TO DO THIS.

Good Sam has just decided that RVers need to be paying 30+ cents more per gallon for fuel.

I for one am going to call GS and tell them what I think of this behavior, and likely demand a refund on the remaining term of my greatly-extended membership... I want no part of that company any longer. Hopefully anyone else that feels the same will also make their voice heard, it is the only way that anything will change.

If GS has an exclusive contract with PFJ , good for them.
Don’t like it don’t go there, simple.
I don’t profess to know why this agreement was made but If PFJ has a contract they need to abide by it. They can’t afford another multi million dollar lawsuit.
GS/CW sell their customers on a special fuel discount and now their contract partner is offering a better deal to others.
Pretty sure we all know what exclusive means.

Found this on the TSD Logistics Facebook Site. Looks like TSD would prefer that we not contact GS or P/FJ.

"The big deal is that TSD has shown us all that a much larger discount is possible than the 8 cents/gallon Good Sam was getting us. A MUCH larger discount."
That was pretty obvious before without reading it on the Inet!
When truck stops are charging $0.30-$0.50 more than other retailers why are the OTR truckers... the highest volume users... going there??
THEY AREN'T PAYING THAT PRICE,

Meanwhile, the local Love’s EFS discount is nearly a dollar/gal. Net price is $1.88/gal. I haven’t been to at PFJ since I got the EFS card last fall and have no plans to return.

It really appears as though there is a lot more going on then an internet forum could know without being privy to all the contracts and having lawyers and judges interpret them.

My speculation, which is as valid as the rest, TSD thought they found an additional revenue stream by opening up thier resale program to RVs but Pilot and Good Sam disputed their interpretation of whatever contracts were signed.

Personally, I just pull into whatever gas station I'm passing when I need fuel.

Since I received my Tsd card ,I only stopped at Loves. The diesel was much less than at Pilot-fling j.
I have contacted Pilot and told them to cancel my gas discount card.
As far as Camping world ,I only stop there maybe once a year just to see if there is anything they are selling that is useful.I bought a step once.It was on sale and still over priced .
Happy camping.

If we share the info with others we meet it will grow larger and benefit TSD as well as all of us. Honestly I did not use the GS card necessarily for the discount as it was not much but more for the convenience of running the card in the truck lanes and not having to go inside while traveling. However TSD has a great discount and the convenience of using the card at the pump so I'm with them 100 Percent. If Pilot can't or won't be part of that I'm okay with it they just wont sell me fuel.
Amen to this!! I think if we call and make a big fuss about all of this, it will just bring more heat down on TSD and they may decide that discounts for RV'ers just isn't worth the hassle. If we all band together and do exactly what this gentleman has stated, they will get the hint.

I doubt the Small number of a few Thousand TSD ( at the most) RV customers at P/FJ some of whom only buy 20-30 gallons in a pickup will be missed in the big picture. Compared to the Trucking industry and 2-300 gallons fills we are a fly on their back. Just let it go and move on.

No you won't, b/c as of today there is no more TSD discount at PFJ locations. The card will be accepted, but the price will be FULL PRICE of what is on the sign.

No reason to stop there.

I don't know about the current stats, but at one point in the fall it was reported that RV owners on the TSD program were pumping more fuel than the truck drivers in their program. The more gallons in total TSD pumps, the larger their leverage in negotiating discounts.

This was the numbers I remember from that report - think it was for the month of AUG 2019 - "also there numbers came from TDS FB page"

6,500 - RVs - TDS trucks use 100,000 - RV used 120,000

Last number I saw there was a total of 16,000 RV's now - that would be around 300,000 gallons per month for RVs

I remember that, but don't recall any data to support it, but instead someone just speculating.

THEY AREN'T PAYING THAT PRICE,
That means it's non-truckers who ARE paying that price, which I'm sure is no accident on the part of the truck stops. That's why I've always wanted to see assurance from the truck stops themselves that they are okay with TSD offering its discounted prices to RVs and keeping a cut.

All we've ever gotten is someone saying that TSD told them it's fine. And that turned out not to be the case with P/FJ.

PFJ had an "exclusive" contract with Bad Sam to sell to them at the fleet rate, and charge their customers 8 cents less than the posted price, sending the rest of the money to Bad Sam.

For 300k gallons a month, that is a substantial amount of money being sent to Bad Sam, so it doesn't take a genius to see that they'd want to protect that free money that they are taking from the RV users.

The truck stops don't care who is actually getting the fuel OR the discounts - just that they are selling more fuel. The benefit of a fleet negotiation is that the fleet is agreeing to loyalty / volume with the truck stop chain, which means higher fuel volume sold. They aren't selling the fuel below cost, but they ARE making even more money on the other items that people buy when they stop.

Nothing that we or TSD is doing is against any laws or practices. We are just leveraging transaction volume with TSD to enjoy a discount that TSD has negotiated for ALL their fleet members. That PFJ got caught in the middle is unfortunate, but entirely b/c of the contract that they signed many years ago with Bad Sam.

Contracts aren't forever, and when they see that there's a potential SIGNIFICANT loss in revenue from losing the RV community as customers, that contract may become less desirable for PFJ to continue. Business is business.
