Good Sam Phishing Email
Beware of a Good Sam Roadside Assistance phishing email. I received an unsolicited email stating that I had requested the GS Roadside Assistance and GS was awaiting payment. I would receive a new mbership number, link to download a temporary member card and a member benefit brochure.
I did not make any such request and called the "800" number to make sure I did would not be signed up for this "service." The arrogant customer service rep did acknowledge that the email was from Good Sam.

You used to be able to stop unwanted emails and snail-mails by clicking one box on the GS website, now you must contact each dept./division and request this. Sure is inconvenient, but after all it is free enterprise hard at work.

Ok....so it wasn’t a phishing email. The sender was actually who they said they were.

Some folks think "unwanted/unsolicited" and "fraudulent" are the same thing.
I get dozens of unsolicited and unwanted emails everyday. I can't remember the last time I got a true "phishing" email. I guess my spam catcher gets most of them.

I believe this should be illegal.... saying the policy was requested and asking for a payment. This is quite different from advertising.

If this had been done by a live person rather than a corporate entity, it would be a felony (at least in NC).

Email garbage? Simply delete it IF it gets pass your spam folder.
Snail mail garbage? Now THERE is a grand opportunity for a bit of self entertainment.
I would have BIG FUN stuffing their own self addressed return envelop with a bit of “junk”of my own. I make sure it’s something that has MY name & mailing address on it (so that they will know exactly whodunnit). For example, that tear off portion from my Netflix DVD rental mailer works quite well. I seal it up real nice & proper & then drop it back into a mailbox.
It may take a few cycles of doing that before somebody on their end realizes they are paying the postage to receive exactly NOTHING … … FROM ME.
Try it. When the light bulb eventually comes on at GS, Guess What…..
You’ll receive no more unsolicited junk mail
My current campaign is with those clowns at “Capital One”.
I’m seeing less garbage from them so I think I’ve got ‘em on the ropes, & slowly wearing ‘em down too........
I BELIEVE I'M ABOUT DUE FOR A ROAD TRIP TO SOMEWHERE!

I never knew sending junk mail (or email) was a felony. You learn something new everyday.

What 800 number did you call? The one on the email? If it is a phishing email, I suspect the phone number on the email is not good sam either.

The OP stated that the email had in it, that he
"had requested the GS Roadside Assistance and GS was awaiting payment".
If it was from GS, then their attempt to drum up business with a lie is pretty sorry. No matter who the email was from, it was fraudulent in nature and was phishing for payment from someone trusting or who was not on the ball.

The key words were "live person".
It's called attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
