My membership expired and I logged on to their website and this is the great offer waiting for me:

3 years $89.85 $69.95 (save $19.90) Biggest Savings!
2 years $59.90 $52.95 (save $6.95)
1 year $29.95 (less than $2.50 a month!)

They must think a sucker is born every minute as this is the rate I found after following the first google link after typing in "good sam renewal":

Good Sam Membership – Select Your Term
3 years $89.85 $45.00 Our Best Deal!
2 years $59.90 $32.00 Save $27.90
1 year $29.95 $19.00 Save $10.95

A couple of years ago they sent me a renewal for 3 years at 32 dollars and 2 years at 24 (which is the one I took). They have a way of going up in rates well over the rate of inflation.

If they stopped sending so much junk mail to everyone they could probably save enough money to give "valued members" a real discount and not a come on.

The magazine or the 10 percent discount (which you can get other ways at campgrounds anyway) is not worth that amount of money.

The same thing happens with magazine subscriptions. I approach subscriptions like buying a car. Negotiate!

Within the past 2 months, Redbook offered me a 1yr renewal (I had been a subscriber for over 10 years) at $21.95. Their subscription rate gradually went up over the years & I was no longer going to pay the price they were giving me. I Googled "Redbook Magazine" & saw on their website they were offering 1yr for $8 & 2yr for $15 (now it's different). I wrote their customer service dept & told them that if they were going to gouge their existing subscribers this badly that I didn't want their magazine at all. I promptly received a reply stating my subscription would be renewed at the 2yr/$15 rate.

So, it never hurts to voice your displeasure with your memberships & be prepared to cancel & walk away from them. These businesses would rather have you, even at a reduced rate, than not at all.

Good Sam membership didn't work for me. I had it years ago and didn't use it.

Just got a year for $2, Mistake? Never had Good Sam's before, but for $2 I figured I would give them a try.

The way I look at it, you just paid $2 for a lifetime of junk mail. I know many others don't agree, but after just one year membership (for more than $2, I might add), I'm STILL getting junk from them two years later. Just today, in fact, got a renewal offer from them.

Wow, their ability to print my name on nearly every portion of the offer, front and back, impressed me so much, I nearly signed up again! NOT

Shredded the whole thing.

Just my opinion . . . and yours is a good one, too!

If one does not know how to go to the phone or go to the good sam site on the net and ask them to put you on thier list for no more junk mail than I think you deserve to get all the mail you get.

The unfortunate part is that I joined Good Sam last year for the sole purpose of stopping the junk mail. Through a super dooper deal, I ended up getting the membership for $2.50. I used the phone and web site. They told me it might take 3-4 months to get all of the planned junk mail for me out of the system. I'm coming up on my year's membership and I still get dribs and drabs of junk mail.

On the phone, I told them point blank - anything that has to be marketed as heavily as they do isn't worth having. I'm not buying - not now, no ever.

And the junk mail just keeps on rolling.

If that worked for you, consider yourself lucky!

Don't assume it works for everyone, though. It hasn't worked for me.

One should not assume . . . as "they" say.

I don't get junk mail from Good Sam and have been a member for over 10 years. Maybe I am lucky and I really like the Mag. FMCA sends more than Good Sam.

If you call Good Sam and tell them that you don't what any mail contact from them, they will stop most of the mail. But remember insurance company's only pay out to better them selves. So it's hard for them to stop (helping them selves).

Everything is costing more every year, and yes, bargaining does occasionally yield positive results in some arenas.

We never receive anything from GS except the renewal notice, after I phoned them and requested to be removed from their mailing lists.
We are well satisfied with both the club and their ERS.
