To Ugly to Prostitute.
To Scared to Steal.
Seen on a corner in the RGV, seen year after year. And he is not getting any prettier!

My wife and I give one time a year. The church gives me the names of a couple of families that
(1) Kids and a mother with no father
(2) In a temporary bind (no history of constant asking for handouts)
Penny and I make a very memorable Christmas for all the kids, Buy each family a cart full off groceries, and give each 10 hundred dollar bills....
Anonymously. My parents handle the details and although I have been asked a few times if it was Penny and I since its my parents handling it, Its been a pretty well kept secret overall and been very satisfying knowing we are helping people that actually need and deserve the help without the publicity that brings people in droves to the car lot asking for a handout or a free car.

You could be, and most probably are right, but at least I know where my money went at the time. We also make annual donations to the Salvation Army.
Best Regards and Safe Travels....

I watched an investigative report on the local news several years ago about beggars on street corners, it pointed to several who are professionals. One man that was followed used make-up and poor clothing to intentionally make himself look homeless, he worked 4-5 days a week holding a sign and asking for money. Come to find out he’s making over $100,000 a year by just begging!!! Many that have signs saying they are veterans aren’t (as a true veteran that one really pisses me off) they’re using that as a sympathy getter to get more money.
Do I feel sorry for the true homeless and people down on their luck, absolutely I do. Do I trust the validity of people standing on the corners, no!

GREAT Advertising - so rare
For the most part, Canadians treat their mentally and physically disabled and destitute with respect as humans... that’s why they don’t have as much of a homeless issue. If you’re down and out, you are offered help to get your life back on track... if your mentally or physically disabled , you can get treatment...
For the most part, in the US, the poor and the mentally or physically disabled, are treated like they are at fault and treated like they chose to live that way. There are very few options available for the mentally and physically disabled, veterans or nonveterans alike. The poor are treated as a lower class and largely ridiculed, and the few options for assistance are being taken away... many homeless are just that, homeless...

OP HERE: Wow how good ideas spread and get ruined. Saw another 25¢ cardboard poster today. Very obvious person in need and nobody was stopping. Why? She felt the need to add a bunch to her sign so the impact of 25¢ all by itself was lost.

As a retired Deputy Sheriff who did 34 years with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, I will tell you that you are doing more harm than good, when you give these people money. The money goes directly toward booze and drugs, which is what got them in the situation the in the first place. All you're doing is financing their drug and alcohol abuse.

I know the answer, I just don't like it.
