Great Basin NP is a super place, went there for the first time last year. The Astronomy Festival would be awesome.

Attended a two night astronomy event a couple of years ago. I learned so much, the gentleman doing the event was super. They turned of the lights at the cave visitors center for the event. They had telescopes setup for use.

Never attended the festival but it's certainly a most excellent place to view the stars...no interfering light inside the park!

We found Baker a little creepy - not much there, not many people around and kinda desolate. The festival should alleviate any off season concerns, just take everything that you think you'll need for the stay.

We stayed at Whispering Elms CG(Baker) - not much to write home about, but very reasonable and the whole area has crazy fast internet.

If you're lucky enough to get there early and can get into this BLM spot with only 10-12 sites, this is an awesome place and is close to the park.

BTW: Baker isn't 'creepy'. .... just a 'tired' small town.
