We plan on doing the Great River Road trip starting in September this year and was wondering if others had done this trip. I did a search on the forum and found nothing recent. I have what looks like a great map and brouchure coming from them, but was looking for some actual camping experience. We do not like to drive in the snow and was wondering also what would be a safe time to be out of Wisc and Minn to avoid snow. Thanks

Lindsay,
We are doing The Great River Road Caravan in September with Winnebago-Itasca Travelers. With whom are you travelling?
I certainly don't expect to see any white stuff while we are up north.

That looks very nice. Our plan is to start out abour Tenn. and go north up around the headwaters then cut over to ND, SD, and Montana as we need them to complete the lower 48 states. We will then work our way South going over to see the the Amish in Ohio. Then we will go down the western side of the Mississippi. Sounds a little convaluted I know, but I just go the way my wife tells me. Depending on the weather, we might save the Amish part of next spring. Enjoy your trip.

Lindsay,
The book Road Trip USA has a good article on the GRR. Can be pruchased at Barnes & Noble. The link below has a lot of info. We plan to leave S. Fla the 1st of June and travel using their guide, Road Trip and others as guides. Hope to make to Du Quoin, IL by June 23rd for the Newmar Rally and then on to Maine for 2 months.

Wow, thank you very much. That "See ya down the Road" segment was very good. Read every word. Now it will be hard to wait until Sept 1 st. Do you plan on publishing photos of your trip to Newmar?

Wonderful narrative. I'm going to try to use parts of it as a guide in some of our future travels.
Many thanks!!

Two campgrounds you might enjoy. Buffalo Shores, just outside the Quad-Cities. Its a Scott County, IA facility. It is right on the river. Not listed in most caground directories. tp://www.scottcountyiowa.com/conservation/bshores.php
Aso Pikes Peak State Park at McGregor, IA. It is on a high bluff overlooking the river. It has buautiful trees and a great hiking trail.

National Scenic Byways
I received a free book from this website and the Great River Road was included. The book was much better than most free literature.
