Great Tech Support from VDC Electronics

The winter of 2015-16, I kept my Trojan T-105 GC2 batteries in my fiver and connected to a BatteryMinder from VDC Electronics. When I did the same for the winter of 2016-17, the Trojans (starting their 5th year) boiled off in about 5 weeks and were ruined. I contacted VDC support, explained the problem and asked what might have happened as I topped them off prior to using the BatteryMinder. They asked me to top them off and try to recover them, but I explained that I had tried that and the BM charge light wouldn't come on and the RV charger couldn't charge them either.
VDC replied that the BM is supposed to detect gassing from the resistance and shut down, and they didn't understand what happened. They are said they are sending a return authorization and will be sending me a new BatteryMinder at no cost to me. Since I've had it about 3 years (they didn't ask), I am really impressed.

I've replaced them and have no proof that the BatteryMinder caused the problem. They were beginning their 5th year and I had only been topping the batteries twice a year. And, when I originally installed them, I dropped a wrench across the posts causing some excitement. They never performed as well as I expected, so they may have been damaged. I was very careful with the new set and they will be topped off every 4-6 weeks. I will just use the BatteryMinder for no more than 48 hours just to desulfate a couple times a year.
