As stated earlier don't leave black water open. I may run the gray open but a day or so before dumping the black tank I'll shut the gray then later dump the black first shut the black valve and dump the gray tank to flush with. When it is a one night stop over both are shut until we are ready to leave and I may not dump the black to stir up the solids.

Grey tank filling

Hi there we are full-time and we've at least noticed this about grey.

We have one tank for shower and bath sink.

We have a second tank for Galley and washing machine.

I can tell you that we do take Navy showers but three showers is about it.

On the galley three loads of clothes is about it.

6 pages of speculation and no answer from OP. I think Elvis has left the building.

If you are hooked up to city water or in and RV full-hookup, why would you not just leave your gray tank open all the time? The only time you might want to close it is if you are boondocking or no sewer hookups.

I agree. This is exactly what we do. It's important to not leave the black open because solids would build up. Also, you need the liquids to work with the deodorizer tablets to break down the solids.

Sewer rats have been known to get into the grey water tank when left open.Yuk! I would rather pull the lever every few days than have to have the tank dropped and cleaned.
