Thanks for acknowledging that fact.

Some people don't leave home without their AMX card. My wife and I have been RVing for 40 years and we don't leave home or leave in our motor home without our carry or carries. We both have CHL's and have for several years. She carries a Ruger LCP .380 Auto and in the motor home, I have a Glock 20 10MM, Glock 30 .45ACP, and a Sig P238 .380 Auto for warm weather carry when I wear T-shirts and shorts. I have an assortment of other Glocks, Sigs, S&W's and a number of long guns but I don't generally carry them.
Carrying a firearm is a matter of personal choice and preference. If one is not comfortable with carrying a firearm and have not taken courses in firearm safety, you are better off not carrying. We don't worry about carrying in Mexico or Canada. We avoid both. Our close friends and family know we both carry and they are comfortable with it. No one else knows we carry, and they don't want to find out.

Discussing religion, politics and firearms is always a stressful thing. I learn way more from debates with persons I disagree with than ones whom I agree. This kind of post is educational. Moderators; don't kill this thread because we disagree.
Just some facts: Paperwork you fill out to purchase a firearm stays at the business. It is not reported to the federal government. Exception: If you purchase several firearms in a short period of time, the seller is required to notify the ATF. The only way the police can tract a firearm is through the serial number and the FFL that sold it. Hence, no registration.

I appreciate the way that this forum is moderated. I completely stopped posting on another RV forum because it was difficult to keep a thread there going for more than a few posts without personal attacks and completely off topic stuff. All of us a probably guilty of a little topic drift but this was constant and blatant.
I also agree that I learn from those on the opposite side of a discussion. I enjoy good banter and will try to generate it if I can but noone wins when things turn personal. While I freely admit yelling "how can you even think that?" at the computer screen more than once, putting that thought into writing in a post doesn't help. I'm much more motivated to try to develop a cogent counter-argument when the opposing posters remain civil. That, of course, could be part of the problem. Sometimes, it seems, the purpose is shut down the discussion.
I'm really pleased that this thread has survived a "couple of rough patches". Thanks, Mods, for the gentle nudges rather than an iron fist.

Then delete the member post, not the thread. Too many times a good thread goes down because a couple abuse it.

First, let me apologize to the OP for hijacking his thread and to the rest of the members for being off topic.
You make an excellent point and ultimately that's our objective, isn't that why you come to the forum, to discuss topics that are important and of interest to you as RV'ers?
Members who start threads are responsible for them and should participate by answering questions, adding additional information and, at least, making sure it's on it's intended topic, in short, just be a good steward of the thread you create. Unfortunately not all members do this. By far, the threads we do close have become contentious, personal and way off topic. Many member who open a thread never read the original post, they simply reply to the last post in the thread and if it's off topic theirs will be too. We post thread warnings to preserve then for the rest of the membership but when it comes down to it these threads and posts belong to you.
We aren't asking that thread starters become moderators just good stewards of them and that members post responsibly to them.

I don't plan on going to Canada or Mexico.......so I won't have any problems......I do suggest everyone to remember that an RV has thin walls, very easy for high caliber to penetrate more than 1 wall. We all have our preference....inside an RV I prefer a shot shell of some sort, less chance of penetration of more than 1 RV wall...I don't care about my walls as comparison for our safety...but I certainly do worry about penetration of others' walls after a high caliber passes through my wall. Just my 2 cents(but in this economy it's worth a 1/4 cent)

I also don't plan on going to Canada or Mexico either, at least not till the crime rate goes down in both.
My 12 GA loaded with ½ size Aguila shells. Less penetration but still effective at short range. I can stuff 13 of them in my Win 1300 pump.
Normally I carry a .45 Kahr with laser, there's a .45 Taurus beside the drivers seat in the safe and probably the 12 GA and an AR in the back. The .45's are loaded with personal protection rounds that have low penetration but expand well.

Whether you choose to carry or not is, indeed, a personal choice. What safety there is, exists only because some one, somewhere carries a gun.
