Shark upgraded their PetPerfect to 18 volts and called it PetPerfect II. Consumer Reports gave it very high marks. Guess what? The little sommagun works! Even has a power brush.

We bought a Shark rechargeable vacuum at Bed/Bath/Beyond for $99 minus a 20% off coupon. Since our house is 100% hardwood with rugs, we cannot live with out it. We use the thing all day long--on and off.
My wife had a Home Shopping Network credit and she used it to buy a small Joy Mangano Vacuum--corded--for $30-$40. We're going to take it to our RV. While it doesn't have a motorized beater head like the Shark, it has so much suction it sounds like a jet plane. And it does the job well. It's also great for cleaning out a car or boat, as it has a 3' hose.
