Has Anyone done the Polar Bear Plunge?

Hi, I'm a writer doing an article for FMCA magazine on taking the Polar Bear Plunge (which I have done). I'd like to interview other RVers who have done it too. Especially if you drove there in your RV. If you are interested, please contact me at terri.blazell@gmail.com. (There is no compensation - just 15 minutes of fame). Thank you. Terri

Terri,

I live across the street from the beach and we have several plunges every year. I have not engaged in such behavior, despite the layer of fat I have built up over my 56 years. I think due to the shock, I might succumb to a heart attack, not the manner I would like to exit.

Good for those who are younger at heart than I.. Best to you and your research!!

Gary

56 is not too old. Take a look at the people who are doing it. Many of them are older than you think. I did it for my big 5-0 and no heart attack, just really really c-c-cold! Thanks for your input. Anyone else out there who may have done it? Am I the only one? Clearly it is an exclusive club.

Terri: I was stationed in Port Clarence, Alaska (80 miles NW of Nome) in 1962. We went out on the ice to open water and swam in The Bering Sea. Don't need to do it again, I got the patch. ...Enjoy..

Post The Plunge

we had such a lovely winter here in Vancouver, BC. I love watching those people on the news at 6... I rather plunge in our Motorhome now and stay there...Did lots of crazy stuff as a kid.... no more.

I take a plunge only when the pool is heated and indoors.

Done 40 degree water a great number of times, including floating around in it on inner tube. Haven't tried anything colder, yet. Didn't do it with a group, usually by myself.
