HD Antenna Needed?

I just purchased a 2006 Weekend Warrior, my question is will the original antenna still work with the newer TV’s? It’s round and is mounted on the roof. I’m new at RV’ing.

A metal coat hanger will work...........

HD & Digital capabilities are based on the TV tuners.
(ATSC Tuner for over the air and Clear QAM” tuner for cable reception)

Antenna receives the digital signal ---same as old analog signals.
How many channels it can receive is dependent on distance to the TV Transponder Towers, Signal strength and direction of tower.

Roof top rotating antennas that are amplified have better reception then 'Fixed' omni-directional roof top antennas

Looking for a metal coat hanger. Only thing I can find is plastic. Will that work? 😊

The round antenna should work with the new TV’s but you may be disappointed with its performance, especially in fringe areas. The best overall antenna is a Winegard Sensar IV.

Short answer: YES. it will

Longer answer
To the antenna, digital or analog, television or not, it is all RADIO the only thing the antenna is concerned with is the Frequency (About a week of college left out on antenna theory).

The old days we used 3 frequency bands VHF-Lo, VHF-HI and UHF
Today we use mostly UHF a few VHF-HI and only a very small number of VHF-LO's

But they are still using the same "Channels" to broadcast on (I call them Carrier Channels)

So the best TV antenna is the Winegard Sensar IV
If you have an Sensar II or III (Batwinmg style by Winegard) add a Wingmanm to it.

You can also get additional performance upgrade by replacing the wall plate with the switch, 12 volt outlet light and antenna connection with a Sensar Pro (About 100 bucks DIY)

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! As others have said, yes, the old antenna will work. Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
