HD TV

I have a Winnebago 38j with a non HD satellite dome. What is the best (read cheapest) way to upgrade to full HD. I recently replaced all tvs to new LG tvs. A 50 " and a 32" in the bedroom. My bride wants channels that our Winnebago installed Winegard roof antenna will not provide. Please help me keep a happy wife for a happy life! Thanks for any suggestions.

You'll get more channels and HD by using a dish. The Tailgater is popular and can be bought for about $300.

We have a subscription for dish. so we do not pay as we watch. that's some of the perks of having the dish. i bought the tailgater for $199. the model was being closed out due to a newer model come on the market. With the 211 receiver we can take it into the garage and watch TV when we are not camping. But it only supports one TV at a time. Unless dish has a joey for the 211.

For Direct-TV, you must have an open-face dish to receive their HD channels becasue they are on a frequency band that is inaccessible to a dome antenna. For Dish subscribers, you can get them with either dome or open dish - the satellite is available via either methods.

The cheapest way to get High Def SAT is to buy a used open face home dish and mount it some way that you can move it for the RV (Tripod, post in a bucket of cement, etc).

They are almost free on Craigslist and only just over $40 complete on Amazon.

The receiver is up to you...DirecTV or Dish will give you HighDef with the home style antenna.

WARNING...This means manual aiming. This is a technical thing to do. If you are not real handy with electronics...STRONGLY suggest going with a Dish Net solo receiver (ViP-211 series - $88 on the refurbished ads) and an auto-aim portable antenna like a GenI Tailgater ($200 refurbished - GenII costs more 'cuz it can feed 2 receivers).

Best luck
