Heritage RV Service Contract

When we purchased our motor home in 05 we also purchased the Heritage PlatinumRV Service Contract. Recently, the hydraulic pump on the jacks burned up and a valve failed, about $1500 worth. So, the service center called and received an authorization number to do the work on. They were also told that I had to pay them and then Heritage would send me the moneys that the policy covered. Sounded great, we went on our way. About a month latter I called to see about our compensation. They told me Heritage no longer sold the extended warranties and we were scheduled for payment September 30, 2011! They said we might be paid sooner if money became available.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice?

Thanks, JOR2

If your state does not consider a service contract insurance (most do not, but Florida does, for example), then the insurance commission can't help you. In that case, try the attorney general. But basically you have a civil suit problem - they are in violation of their contract with you and your recourse is to sue them. But they would likely just declare bankruptcy, which does you no good either.

A letter to the Good Sam magazine or other RV consumer help hotline wouldn't hurt. Might get your payment moved up (at somebody else's expense).

I received a letter notifying me that the extended service company had filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. I had lots of those policies when I was managing my business. I forgot the name as I sold the business several years ago and must have gotten a multi year contract. In that case not much hope of recovery. The letter did say that people who had paid for claims were going to get the first money. Check there financial health and then act quickly.
