Hobart, IN voting to ban RV parking
The following is an interesting article from RVTrade Digest about a Hobart, IN bill that passeid first reading to ban truck and RV parking on commercial lots. They state this is aimed at trucks parking at Walmart but have included RVs in the ban. Final reading is scheduled for June 3.

Here is the city website listing the officials. It lists phone numbers only for councilmen. If you click on "Administration" at the top the directory will give email of mayor and other officals if you wish to contact them.

Please repeat your post on the escapees forum too. We have proven speaking out does obtain positive results on this issue. Thanks for the information.

Sounds like the local RV Parks want more business which equals more tax revenue for the city and county. Also by restricting and prohibiting overnight parking on streets, then vehicles will have to be stored/parked on private property meaning again more tax revenue.

Hobart IN Ban Tabled
From the Post-Trib newspaper:
"HOBART -- After being swamped with e-mail and letters from irate recreational vehicle drivers, the Hobart City Council now wants to rethink a proposal to stop trucks and RVs from parking overnight outside shopping centers along U.S. 30.
By a 5-1 vote, the council on Wednesday decided to postpone a final vote on the parking ban and send the proposed ordinance back for more study."
The entire atricle is here: http://www.post-trib.com/news/lake/1...il0604.article
The first read vote was 5-1 in favor, quite a turn around although they have tabled it for more study not dropped it.

If and when the city council revisits this issue, be sure to let us know and provide the council members e-mail addresses again.

Best of luck on the battle, however ( I have my fire suit on) not all of these attempts are caused by the campground owners. Here in NH in Concord the same MH and trailers camp out at wally world every year for the 2 nascar race weeks. My wife saw a trailer in a Rochester parking lot pull up to a storm drain and dump its tanks. Go to Whitehorse YT and see all the units in the parking lots for days at a time while there are many slots open in the campgrounds or visit Tioga Georges web site and the section about how to avoid having to leave a no parking area. Or a post on this site to day about people who in a town, I think in TX, that have lived in their RV in parking lots for years by moving around. WE are our worst enemy. Think about it if you were a town official, what do you do? Have the police patrol and mark the tires or just say no more...

I run into this quite a bit because I not only live in an RV but also drive OTR in 48 states and Canada. There has been a move for some time to ban trucks from parking any place except truck stops. The reason most given is the idling or trash. Out west there are more areas to park so it is not as bad except in CA. But out east a driver need to be in a truck stop or have found a place hours before sunset or there is a good chance you won’t find one. After 11 hours by law we can drive no more or risk large fines.
Since I have visited a few Wal-Marts over the years all over the country the one thing I have notices is the changes in the lay out of the parking lots. Many now have islands and curves that make it imposable to maneuver a long rig into, very different from the large flat lots of old. A lot of truck drivers refer to Wal-mart as the other truck stop and many use them to restock our food since we might be on the road from a few weeks to several months with out returning “home”.
