Holding up the hinged bed

one of the posts I read recently talking about
somebody holding up the hinged bed to get into
the storage underneath. I use a dowell, like a broomstick cut to fit to put under there so that
it stays open without fear of falling down on me. Ya never know when the dog decides he's gonna jump on the bed. When I take it out I just lay it down there in the edge so I can just
reach for it next time.

1/2" schedule 40 PVC pipe, cut to the appropriate length is what we use. I had an extra closet rod holder (also plastic). I fastened the closet rod holder to the underside of the bed. The top of the PVC pipe goes into the holder. It is a sturdy setup with no chance of the PVC coming undone by accident.

I've got the opposite problem - how to keep the bed from lifting up. When we tuck in the sheets at the bottom of the bed it lifts up. I've been toying with the idea of putting a latch on it to keep it closed.

Alan, mine did the same thing, the mounts on the platform (the lower bed frame) were installed upside-down. The ball joint on the platform mount should be as close to the top as you can get it, this way when the bed is lowered the ram goes over center when almost closed and actually starts pressing down on the hindged portion. Hard to describe, hope this helps. Randy

My last motor home did not have the lift pistons either, so I bought a couple of 35lb ones at an RV store and installed them.
The one I have now came with them.

I too have the bed lifting up when making the bed. Like Alan@Hepburn.com I'm going to install a good latch, and a type of latch I can lock. Then when we have to leave the coach at a dealers for repairs, etc. We can put some of the things that we are concerned about in a lockup area.
