Alan, mine did the same thing, the mounts on the platform (the lower bed frame) were installed upside-down. The ball joint on the platform mount should be as close to the top as you can get it, this way when the bed is lowered the ram goes over center when almost closed and actually starts pressing down on the hindged portion. Hard to describe, hope this helps. Randy
