Homeless

This ad is posted in my local Craigslist "Wanted" section:

"Hi there , there are many and many homeless family's living outside, in tents , cars and on the streets. Please if you or you, or you might know someone wanting to get rid of a trailer, motor home, rv even if they need work to donate to family's in need. We are looking for un wanted trailers, rv's, motor homes for homeless family's with children. The demand for homes are at a all-time high. We fix them, licensed them and donate to family all over Washington state..... Please let me no if you can help , We can come tow away... Thanks and god bless stay safe and healthy".

I suspect this is one of those slum lords, who sell this junk, to be parked on the side of the road. Then to be removed and the area cleaned up at taxpayer expense.

I sincerely hope not.

The reply info is simply: 47d9d208a6113d38a2cf0813b376c647@sale.craigslist.o rg

Was the ad posted by a real charity? I don't see a charity name in the ad. Should be info somewhere on line about tax status etc. If nothing turns up regarding non-profit status, whether donations are tax deductible, etc. then I'd suspect it's a ripoff.

Well after working nearly 30 years in the heart of the SODO District
(South of downtown Seattle) I suspect you may be correct.
Never have I seen so many derelict RVs anywhere. They get impounded at the City's expense, bought up at impound auctions for pennies on the impound fee and rented by the slumlords who usually never even register them. Repeat the process...
I'd be in favor of City sanctioned RV parks with proper sanitation and rules. Instead the City just lets em park wherever and dump lord only knows in the street. Really a sad, unsafe situation.
One blew up about 200' from our shop, yep, mobile meth lab.

"Now, Mayor Durkan is going further, proposing legislation that would allow fines of $250 per day — and misdemeanor charges for subsequent offenses — against anyone who allows people to live in vehicles that the city defines as “extensively damaged,” and offering tenants of those vehicles up to $2,000. The City Council will discuss the measure in committee Friday."

Two years ago, we donated our Suncruiser to a homeless vet, his wife, and their 14 year old daughter. It was through a legitimate local charity, and we received a donation receipt for tax purposes.

We did a lot to get it ready, and made sure it was fully able to drive on its own, furnished with linens, and kitchen equipment, and gave them a hundred bucks for food. (They were living in a Ford Explorer with a broken out back window.) I even threw in a Harbor Freight tool set.

I hadn't seen it around town for a few months until a couple of weeks ago. I hardly recognized it....

I didn't get to see the sides, but the rear is a very well done, detailed camo job.
