I recently left the Gulf Coast and bought a nice house in a gated community with RV ports and garages near Lakeland FL (Polk City FL). The name of the community is Mount Olive Shores North. Houses don’t come open every day but if you wait a while you can find one, or build one (a few lots still open). The nearby town isn’t much but 90 mi to either East or West coast of Florida, 45 min to either Orlando or Tampa. No snow shovels required.

If they don’t get your money in one way then they’ll find another.

What an astute observation. Mosquitos, Scorpions, Alligators, Poisonous snakes everywhere, Sinkholes on every corner and half the population doesn't speak English. Good idea DKB218NYC. Stay away.

What I want is a garage/shop with living quarters, I think this idea will become very popular in the future.

Take a look at Bay Lake Motorcoach Resort; just the other-side of I-4 from Mt Olive Shores Resort,Polk City Fl. - 15 minutes east of Lakeland Florida....

You forgot the brain eating amoeba. Yes, stay away. Its too crowded from all the yankees retiring here. Florida needs people to leave, not come here.

I have to visit on occasion. My family is from there. Both siblings moved back there. Don't get me wrong, Florida is a nice place to visit. It's just too darn crowded now. Traffic in some areas make NYC seem like a country road. I guess after living most of my life in the city, I want wide open spaces in my soon to be retirement life. Florida isn't that place anymore.
