This is just a reminder of the mental health crisis. If your family needs help, get it for them.
How was the murderer related to the victims?

Really sad story, I know I always take a walk around the campground after get my site set up. I try to give a friendly nod or wave to people I see, being neighborly. I also try to see what kind of "vibes" they also give off so I know who to keep a close eye on if I feel they might be future trouble.

Not really the kind of thread I expect or want to see in a forum about using RV's.

We don't live in fear. It would consume you. In 16 yr. of full-timing and traveling constantly we've never had an occasion to be wary of others. We used public parks and boondocked on public land; sometimes with others; sometimes alone. We don't believe in 'protection'.

That is key to reducing murders.
I remember reading a few years ago about a man in China killing 40 school children with a knife before police arrived, firearms are outlawed there.

I've never forgotten my situational awareness training in the Army and find myself assessing my surroundings wherever DW and I may be.

Just the day before the Greenwood mall shootings I mentioned to DW we should go there just to have a cool place to walk. but I began feeling ill.
DW says everything happens for a reason..

Prior to taking my Concealed Carry test 15 years ago, we were required to take an 8 hour gun safety and awareness course prior to the actual shooting demonstration. The instructor was a retired police officer. One of the most important things he emphasized was being aware of our surroundings. He also said that having a concealed license did you no good unless you carried all the time. It took awhile, but I eventually learned to scan my surroundings whenever I was in the presence of other people. Maybe with some suspicion, but more just be aware of the environment I was in. It became automatic and although I have never been in such a tragic situation as a shootout, I feel more confident that I would react in a safer manner. It's unfortunate our society has come to this point, but being prepared is better than being a victim.

Last month we were camping at a state park. A couple a few sites down were continually arguing and were obviously intoxicated. We called the park ranger several times. We were afraid to intervene for fear of one or both of them getting violent towards us or retaliation. The rangers stopped at their site several times. It continued to escalate. We finally called 911. The sheriff came out and observed them driving through the campground. They hit a tree backing into a site. She was arrested for drunk driving. He was allowed to stay. She got out of jail the next day and they left. First time in 30+ years of camping we’ve observed this behavior. I don’t think it’s a sign of the times, but we always are aware of who is around us.

You shouldn't overreact to isolated stories like this. How many millions of people were tent camping or RV camping at the same time, that had absolutely no problems?
