Hot water heater issues

Hey guys I'm new here so if this is the wrong place for this I'm sorry.

I just recently bought a 2000 damon daybreak and everything seems to work ok except the hot water heater. Its an atwood g6a-8e and the problem with it is flip the switch it turns on for approximately 2 minutes then it shuts off. It doesnt turn back on either.. flip switch off then turn it back on 30 min later and it turns back on for 2 min.. what could be the issue?

On many gas water heaters the light stays on only until the pilot ignites the gas for the heater. I'd suggest that you turn it on, and a while later check to see if you have hot water. That's assuming you've opened the valve on your propane tank.

Here's a link to Atwood water heater manual.
http://bryantrv.com/docs2/docs/atwoodwaterheater.pdf

Running for 2 minutes before shut down sounds like an overheat condition. If the thermocouple was bad, it would shut off in 8-10 seconds. Are you sure the tank is full of water? With water pump on or connected to city water, pull the lever on the pressure valve. Water should flow. If it doesn't plumbing is set to water heater bypass. Having water run out of the hot water faucet will still happen on winterizing bypass.

No water comes out the pressure release valve.. so im assuming its on hot water bypass I guess.. how do I switch it to not bypass? Propane is on and all other gas appliances work..

I can't tell you exactly where it's located on your RV. If you can access the back of the heater, it might be there. On mine, it's near the water distribution manifold, on the opposite side of the RV from water heater. You might also remove the drain plug and flush out the tank before using the water, crud builds up fast!!

These videos might help:

Unless it changed on my 06, look under your sink at the tank there is either one or 2 shut off's for the bypass.

Good to hear. Now, if you haven't flushed the tank, you might want to remove the aerators from the faucets and clean them out. Crud in the tank doesn't stay there, it migrates to the aerators and shower heads.
