Hot Water Indicator Light

I want to share an upgrade I made to my pass 5th wheels and current motor home. I wire a LED indicator light (inside RV) to the electric water heater element. This is great for shower time. This lets us know when the water heater has reach temperature when using the electric heater. When we turn on the electric water heater the indicator light is on and heating. When the light goes off the water is hot and ready for the next person to go shower. Note: I do put a inline 1-amp fuse close the the hot connection on the heating element.

So this wired in downstream of t-stats at the element so when t-stat opens no power to light?

Atwood element is on backside of WH Tank and can be a PITA to access

I just turn my On when arrive/set up and turn it off when breaking camp

Yes, it is on the load side of the thermostat.

Easier method. If you have a onboard Amp meter and use electric to heat the water when you first turn on the electric the Amp meter will show about a 10 amp increase.
When it drops back down the water is hot. Also works if gas and electric are both used.
For my Minnie that has only gas heating I installed a mechanical temp gauge on the outside of the tank so I can see the water temp. And can no longer hear the gas on.

If you have a Kill-A-Watt you can see the voltage draw/drop when you turn on the Hotwater. When Hot voltage returns upward.

I bought 2 of these...

The first reads hot water temp - I ran the probe over to the water heater and slid it between the tank and the insulation.

The second I ran the probe outside for outside air temp.
