Hot water issue
Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie and we are getting ready to leave on vacation. My hot water heater works on propane, but when I switch it to electric, the pilot light doesn't come on. Does the pilot light need to be on while I'm plugged in to electric?
Thanks in advance for your help!!
Sincerely,
Steve

Something you might not have heard is that if you have sufficient electrical power to your RV is that you can switch on both the propane and electric for the water heater at the same time for faster recovery of hot water.

The only time the "Pilot Light" should be on is when you first turn it on GAS, and go out shortly after. If you see it on again, you have a problem.

A word about the electric heater, do not forget to turn it off when you will be storing your RV. If there is no water in the tank the electric element will burn out. BTW, if it does burn out, this is a generic 120VAC 1500W (short model) water heater element available at any hardware store or department.

I don't think there ever is a pilot light on any recent (last 20+ years) coaches. They have electric "spark" that lights the fuel that is released when you turn on the device.
