How do we get our Fifth Wheel out of service

We took our fifth wheel in to Camping World after we returned home from a four month 8,900 mile trip to Canada. We had warranty issues including our Lippert Auto Leveling System showing jack fault errors on the control panel, a center jack that we wire tired up because it failed raise. We had required maintenance completed including new brakes.

We dropped it off on November 1, 2022 and since we did not get a call we called at the end of December and was told all maintenance and repairs were completed and we scheduled a day to pick it up. When we arrived we were told to pay and they would move the trailer out for pick up. I backed to truck up and opened the cubby door to access the Auto Leveling System to raise the fifth wheel to back the truck under. We got the same error message "Jack Fault Error" and not all jacks would drop to the ground. The front end would not raise high enough to load on the gooseneck. after about an hour watching the tech trying to reset the jacks to "zero calibration" we were told to leave it so they can find the issue call the warranty company "Good Sam" and order any needed parts to complete the repair.

We were called the beginning of January and were told the repairs were complete and to come pick it up. We backed the truck up and went through the process with the Auto Leveling System again to load the fifth wheel only to find out we were getting the same fault messages again and would not be taking it home once again.

We did our usual walk around to learn that the drivers side was scraped and creased and the Arctic Fox Decal was also damaged.

In addition the Fifth wheel Pin Box that we had them install in May of 2022 was severly damaged from being pushed around with a forklift.

They agreed to expedite the warranty Auto Leveling System and repair all damages.

Now we are approaching six months without use of our trailer and have been told parts have been ordered and when they arrive they will expedite the repairs and call us.

I have raised my issue with corporate and upper management and have been treated very un-professional and cannot get any defenite answers.

I am a retired Parts Director for multi dealership franchises and have never treated any customer like this in my entire career.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Two words can explain all of this…CAMPING WORLD.

I would never - EVER - go to a Camping World store for ANYTHING.

You need to recover the RV. If it still has faults you will have to find another way to deal with them.

CW is never going to resolve your issues so stop letting them try. Buying from them was a mistake. Cut your losses and move on.

Throwing good time and money their way will not get them to do the right thing.

They had TP during COVID. Beyond that, yeah, pretty much agree with you. The occasionally have some cute knick knacks too; but, if it's important, it's not being bought there. Both because they sell a lot of junk and also, the good stuff they do sell, I can get it much cheaper on Amazon and not have to drive to Camping World!

Do you subscribe to Good Sam magazine or Trailer Life (if it's still available)? Try contacting the editor or write a "letter to the editor". They used to do a reconciliation effort to complaints written to them.

Who is this dealer?

Contact the Attorney General and start a complaint with all the information so far. The contact CW and set a deadline for all repairs to be done.

BTW, forget about calling CW corporate. They already have your money and Marcus really doesn't care. Also demand an extended warranty for the time they've had your unit.

To the OP, you are much more patient than most, including me. After the Attorney General’s office gives their opinion, I would trade the unit for another from a reputable dealer. Good luck.

I feel sorry for you, as I have been a similar situation with Camping World before also. They kept it for months, lied saying it was ready to pickup (but it wasn't), made excuse after excuse, finally stopped communicating with me. I went to a legitimate repair shop and explained my situation and he suggested I just go pick it up, bring it to him and he would fix it. It was in running condition so I got it back from CW and took it to the honest repair shop and they fixed it how they said they would, when they said they would and for how much they said they would. Just like it is supposed to be!
I thought about taking legal action, but that would have just put me under more stress and aggravation. The work was covered under warranty.
I have not been back to CW again!
Hope your situation works out good for you,

The Marcus "ain't happy" line is a farce. People getting paid to listen to you and it goes no further. "Thank you , we'll look into" Try to get it escalated while on the phone. Ask for a return cal from someone higher up. I went through this for about 3 weeks with the phony complaint line.

I agree with Old Biscuit. Contact the local tv station. Most have a consumer help advocate.

I'm kind of young to own an RV, most of my friends don't yet have the time or money for one and often ask me if they should get into it when they can.

For some friends, the answer is "Yes" and others it's "No".

The difference between the two; the friends who are mechanically inclined, know how to work on cars, have installed outlets/breakers in their house, have done some basic plumbing and are "handy", yeah, an RV will be fun, have at it. Those who call someone to change a light bulb? An RV is probably not for them; there's just too much maintenance and finding someone good to do it at ANY price is hard. If you're even a little $$ constrained, it's near impossible.

The other unrelated big one, if you can't store an RV at home, life gets a lot harder. It's harder to work on it even if you do have the skills, it's expensive, you're not "on top" of possible issues like you are when it's sitting along your house.
