I have about a 1970 aluminum frame and woven plastic strap lattice folding chair that I leave out. You know the type, $4.95 at Walgreens ($3.98 on sale), sometimes equipped with a cardboard SITE OCCUPIED sign on the seat. Seems to work well for me, and if its stolen, well, good riddance.

That is unless it is a state park after hours. I was just at one in Oregon that posted the available sites. 4 out of the 5 were taken but still were listed as available. If you didn't block of the site, someone would ave moved in even though you would have payed for the site.

I don't worry about it if I have paid for my spot, the office takes care of that. But I do have a short piece of 30 amp cord that has wires exposed and burned that I hang from the electrical service and that turns then away in a heart beat......I'm kidding

Oh my gosh, I sure hope you and I don't fly into the same airport someday. I usually go to the luggage carousel look for the suitcase with the bright surveyors tape and thinking its mine because hardly no one else does things like this, walk out with it. Now you have forced me to actually look at the suitcase! My daughters always laugh at me for putting surveyors tape on the suitcase, but it also has the side benefit of keeping someone else from taking it. After all, who else would want it with all the tape brightly marking it?

We have the exact sign and 2 small orange cones. The cones have a hole in the top just right to stick the vertical stake of the sign into. This works great as I'm not trying to pound the sign into a gravel pad or needing to place the sign beside a cement one.

I leave a blinking LED headlamp I carry anyway ($3) sitting on a note in a ZipLoc bag which says "OCCUPIED by ABC 123" (my license number).

Never had a problem, the light takes 3 AAA batteries and will blink seemingly forever. I like the light idea, because it indicates it's a "live" campsite, no one left the occupied sign 3 weeks ago.
