We do prefer campgrounds far enough away from a busy highway that we're not hearing traffic all night. We usually try to stop in or near a small town for the night and since we try to set up before 5:00 PM and ask if there anything unique to see in the local area.

Depending on the campground we might venture 12 miles or so for a good one. Otherwise for an overnight the closer the better.
