We live in our Class A full time. and have had Good Sam's extended warranty for the past 9 years. It has paid for itself & we've never really had much trouble getting our claims paid. The couple times we had a problem it was more a problem with the repair shop itself. We've been very happy with them.

Since you are still "in the process of buying" your toy hauler, two other items that you need to put on your list. Request/require NEW batteries, especially since the rig has sat at the dealer's lot for a year. The batteries are probably toast. Disconnect them, and use a load meter to test them if necessary. The second item that comes to mind is the date code on the tires. It is not unknown for dealers to swap out tires on rigs that they have sitting on their lots for long periods.
When we were looking at RV's we spotted several that had 4 and 5 year old tires on "brand new" rigs!

On the ESP's, going with an exclusionary plan is good advice. Then when something breaks, and it is not on the list, the issuing company will be fighting an uphill battle to deny a claim. . . but they still might try! Demand to see the actual contract that you will be signing before you shell out any money. If they won't provide it, there's a reason, and probably not one that you would like. Go somewhere else.

Good luck with your purchase and use the RV often!

Over the last 20 years of RVing we elected to have a service plan in effect for about 9 of those. Made perhaps 6-7 claims and had no real problem with any of them. They all paid somewhat less than the actual total cost of repair, e.g. no additional shipping costs or less than full labor coverage. All but one were handled promptly over the phone (10-20 minutes). We came out ahead on one plan and lost on the other, which is what you should expect with any form of insurance.

Many of the complaints I see here and elsewhere are for claims that should never even have been made. If they had bothered to read and understand then policy, they would have known better. Too many owners have expectations that will never be met. They listened to the sales guys glowing promises instead of what the policy really says.

We never buy extended warranties on anything. Never been sorry.

x2. I bought with a new unit. First timer fear I guess. Wouldn't do it again.

Extended Warranty

I run an RV Repair Shop. I love Good Sam Extended warranties. Just make sure you never call them. That is for the Shop Warranty clerk to do. If you use the wrong language, (Water, Bent, Etc. ) they will deny the claim. I know a lot of people will disagree. I replace a lot of Air conditioners under extended warranty and many Fridge cooling units. The warranty helps a lot.

You are seeing the best case: Has a problem, has a contract, problem is covered, warranty clerk who is coached on wording the best case is involved with the transaction. ie: you are seeing the slot machines that are paying off.

The great majority of people who purchase service contracts don't have those situation often. ie: the slot machines that don't pay off (the great majority).

I will NEVER buy a warranty through Camping World again. Bought a used Class C. Got a warranty. The AC refused to cool the RV. The temp difference between intake and exhaust was 10 degrees. It couldn't cool the RV. The shower skylight was dripping water in the rain. Found it was cracked across the entire thing and sealed with caulking. They said the AC was "industry standard" and the skylight was "normal wear". I paid them $300 something to replace the skylight and they said it would be $1500 to change out the AC. Bought a AC unit with free shipping for $650 (NOT from Camping World) and installed it myself. 25 degree difference between intake and exhaust.

I will NEVER buy a warranty from them again...

Just because Good Sam & Camping World are related, you don't have to use Camping World for repairs even tho I think they give a discount to your deductible. We have Good Sam E W, but would never let Camping World touch our rig.

The shop has to be very careful in what they say to the extended warranty folks. Often they are not, and coverage is turned down.

They dont pay full parts and labor hours, saying the parts can be had cheaper and it should not take as long as the shop states. So I get partial payment.

Collateral damage. If gizmo X fails, and takes out other items. They only pay for gizmo X parts and labor - after knocking the parts and labor down for gizmo X. This is how they sidestep most major engine repairs.

If having a high dollar repair or multiple items repaired, they want to send a inspector. This can take days to a week or more... No work can proceed as they must see it in the failed state.
While I haven't make a claim, the Viking insurance mentioned a couple posts above yours, has coincidental damage (I think that's the name) at a very reasonable price. It provides coverage for items damaged by the failure of another, including non covered parts. So, if a radiator belt breaks (belts aren't covered) and takes out a radiator, since the radiator is a covered item, it's covered, even though it's failure was due to a non-covered item failing.

Again, I haven't attempted to make a claim of this type, so can't say if they work hard to deny, after selling the extra coverage.
