I am thinking of getting supplies together and loading them into an enclosed trailer to pull behind the MH and get ready to head towards Texas on Monday evening. I figure this way we will know where the items are needed the most. This way the every day items, diapers, water, canned meats, ect, can be dispersed to those that will be needing it as soon as it is possible. Anyone else interested? Maybe meet in a central staging area and convoy in. Depending on where the response was from there could be staging and convoys to different parts.

I would suggest you wait. If it is like Katrina, you may be turned back long before you get to your destination.

I second that. One of the major headaches of the folks dealing with emergencies is also having to deal with well intentioned folks that "Self Dispatch". This causes a major logistical nightmare for people who need to be dealing with the immediate local problems.

I suggest you contact the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Food Share, or other similiar organizations and ask how you can help. They will have the contacts and the mechanism to get the materials into the effected areas.

How would you disperse your items? I was part of an Amateur Radio (HAM) group that did the same years ago in the Tidewater area of Virginia ...it turned out to be a havoc in many ways. I got knocked to the ground in one such incident because that person in need thought he needed some of the things more than others. Our group then decided to do our part in the future through our local chapter of the AMERICAN RED CROSS ...that worked out much better and we even played a part of their team.
