Hwy 89 from Susanville CA to Mt. Shasta CA

Cindy here in Rockinante (40ft Airstream Diesel Pusher). I'm heading to Southern Oregon from Williams, AZ (Grand Canyon area) in a few weeks. Planning to go through (ugh) Las Vegas, up to Susanville CA and get on I-5 at Mt. Shasta CA. How's Hwy 89 from Susanville to Mt. Shasta for a 40 footer with a toad? Your advice and/or comments on this trek are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We have been on Hwy 89 for the stretch from Hwy 44 to McArthur Burney SP. For that section it is a pretty good road. I wouldn't hesitate to pull our travel trailer there.

Hwy 44 from the junction of Hwy 44 & 89 to Redding via Shingletown is also a very good road. Time-wise, it would probably add about a half hour, but just guessing and the route you are considering would avoid Redding traffic.

Enjoy!

Just did 40 west to 58 over Tehachapi to 99 north. Easy drive if wind is low. Not so much if windy!

Have done that trip many times in our 33' Vacationer towing a Jeep. It is good road all the way just twisty in places with some grades here and there. We make the trip several times a year going to Central Point and Winchester Bay Oregon.

Any further questions, feel free to ask.

Rob

Also.... We live in Gardnerville NV and travel up 395 to Susanville, through Susanville stay on 36 for a few miles out of town to 44 then 44 to 89 and 89 to I-5. You will be fine as long as the snow is gone by the time you travel through there.
